Download Mirrors for UK & Ireland

I suggest asking the universities in Ireland and the UK to host Trisquel ISO's and torrents on their servers. As far as I know, many are willing to host free software for free.

For example, in Ireland the HEA (Higher Education Authority www.hea.ie) hosts huge amounts of free software, freely available to download, on their servers. Plus their download speeds are usually fast and reliable.

That would be great! We really could use some more mirrors, thank you.

Info for mirrorers can be found at http://archive.trisquel.info/
including the rsync commands to use and the disk space required.

Good luck! :)

Glad to help Rubén.

I'm not sure about the technical side of how to set up a mirror. So I wouldn't be able to help there. I think if a Trisquel admin/project manager asked the HEA (name at domain) if they would host Trisquel ISOs, I think they'd agree.

I suppose someone would then have to actually set up the mirror. If there was a step-by-step mirror set-up tutorial, I could maybe do it, but right now I haven't a clue.

Ok, I'll write to them. Can you tell me who you contacted with there, so
I can address him on your behalf?

In most systems you just need to configure cron to run the provided
rsync command once a day. I think they would do that, anyway.

Sorry I haven't contaced HEA, nor do I have any contacts in HEA. So I don't know who can be contacted there, I suppose it would be the IT section.

My suggestion is based on experience of downloading free software, when I choose Ireland, it nearly always shows a HEAnet mirror for download, for example: http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/downloadmirrors#mirrors

Also I'm not absolutely sure it's free of charge to host there. Another FSF sponsored OS gNewSense has a mirror at HEAnet: http://www.gnewsense.org/Mirrors/Mirrors

Daniel, if you have some spare time, could you please look for the
mirror service contact emails in this list, so I can write them with a
request? http://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/sourceforge/wiki/Mirrors

Thank you!

HEAnet services: http://www.heanet.ie/services/housinganddata

Quote from the HEAnet web site:

Software Mirroring

HEAnet operate a mirror service to mirror free software and content relevant to the academic community. Currently, we mirror the RedHat Linux Distribution, the Apache Project and the Linux Kernel; however we continue to expand our base of mirrors. You can browse the server for a full listing of what we offer: ftp.heanet.ie (FTP and HTTP). By downloading large content from your local mirror, you get faster downloads and help save international bandwidth. This service is available to the general public.

Finally got to the root (pardon the pun) of the issue. The email for mirror requests is name at domain

Quote:

National Mirror Server

ftp.heanet.ie is the HEAnet National Mirror Server, providing 24 hour access to mirrored content to the HEAnet community and beyond. We mirror a wide range of open-source software, libraries, technical documentation and internet standards. If there is anything you would like us to mirror, including software developed within the HEAnet community, please mail name at domain with your request.

Has anyone from the Trisquel Team contacted HEAnet about setting up the mirror yet?

Not yet, but I see that maybe I expressed myself badly. I meant to ask
you to search for the mirroring contact email for all the links, so I
can send all them a request. Could you do that?

To request mirroring services from the University of Kent you need to fill a questionnaire with all the relevant data (no email apparently). This is the information found at

http://www.mirrorservice.org/Help/FeedBack/Mirror

I Want A Mirror

If you have a suggestion for a popular site or collection which you consider would benefit from a UK mirror and would be of use to UK academic users, please fill out this form and we will investigate its viability.

The UK Mirror Service can provide mirrors of many types of freely available resources, held within FTP, web or rsync sites, subject to feasibility, filestore availability and negotiation of agreements with site owners.

Please fill in all parts of the questionnaire, then select the Submit Your Request button at the bottom of the page.

Welcome to the SUNET Archive!

The purpose of the SUNET Archive is to make it easier for students and researchers from universities in Sweden and abroad to access data. Today, the archive mostly contains computer-related contents. The archive mirrors external sites and for this reason you will find that the user interface will differ.

The Archive is owned by SUNET and operated by the Office for IT and Procurement at Uppsala university.

To contact the administrators please send an email to name at domain.

Debian is distributed (mirrored) on hundreds of servers on the Internet. Using a nearby server will probably speed up your download, and also reduce the load on our central servers and on the Internet as a whole.Debian mirrors can be primary and secondary. The definitions are as follows:A primary mirror site has good bandwidth, is available 24 hours a day, and has an easy to remember name of the form ftp..debian.org.
They are all automatically updated whenever there are updates to the Debian archive.A secondary mirror site may have restrictions on what they mirror (due to space restrictions). Just because a site is secondary doesn't necessarily mean it'll be any slower or less up to date than a primary site.Use the site closest to you for the fastest downloads possible whether it is a primary or secondary site. The program netselect can be used to determine the site with the least latency; use a download program such as wget or rsync for determining the site with the most throughput. Note that geographic proximity often isn't the most important factor for determining which machine will serve you best. The authoritative copy of the following list can always be found at: http://www.debian.org/mirror/list.If you know of any mirrors that are missing from this list, please have the site maintainer fill out the form at: http://www.debian.org/mirror/submit.Everything else you want to know about Debian mirrors:

While these individual soldier aphids contribute to the common good, the nest is also colonized by as many as 25% aphids from other colonies. These invaders do not contribute to the running of the colony but do cism exam questions continue to reproduce at the same rate as productive nest members. The researchers looked at whether the altruism of the soldier aphids put them in danger of losing out to the freeloader invaders, as the invaders increased in number and spread throughout the colony. But one interesting thing they found was that selfless behavior increased when other individuals around them were more likely to also cissp training engage in selfless or helping behavior. This similar behavior is described as the “relatedness” of individuals. Increasing the number of unhelpful invaders decreased social cooperation but not enough to lead to a colony collapse. Additionally, the researchers were able to reduce the complex social behavior of the group, including migrations between nests, to a mathematical model that predicted the levels of social behavior. The HP0-S21 researchers believe the model can be adapted, with modifications, to predict social behavior in other species.
