You can add this PPA for Ubuntu Precise Pangolin (Trisquel 6 is based on it) to get GCC version 4.8 : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-toolchain-r/+archive/test

Trisquel is based on Ubuntu LTS versions. That's the version they happened to have.
