Ubuntu 14.04 has it ready, so please add the linux libre equivalent for Trisquel 7. It would be nice to have the 3.16 kernel for the btrfs and XFS improvements.

Please deblob that biach: http://packages.ubuntu.com/trusty-updates/linux-generic-lts-utopic

True, but its not in the official repos. In the past, Jason has added the equivalent backported Ubuntu kernels to Trisquel.

Oh, OK, I get it.

But surely Jason's de jure unofficial kernel will do fine?

Of course. With the backported kernel, it gives some people reassurance that one is in the official Trisquel repos that takes the current Ubuntu kernel and deblobs it. There are other packages like "linux-cloud-tools-generic-lts-utopic", "linux-cloud-tools-lowlatency-lts-utopic", "linux-tools-lts-utopic", and "linux-tools-virtual-lts-utopic" that may benefit from a kernel that matches it.

P.S. I noticed that http://mirror.fsf.org/trisquel/pool/main/l/linux-lts-utopic/ and http://mirror.fsf.org/trisquel/pool/main/l/linux-meta-lts-utopic/ have been updated with the 3.16 Utopic kernel.

Have you tried the command "sudo apt-get install linux-generic-lts-utopic" in the terminal? If so, does it work for you?

I use Jxself's kernel (and since I installed from debootstrap I mostly never had the default kernels to begin with).
