I have set VLC as my video player but Trisquel fails to do so, still uses Totem.

It actually worked for me on Trisquel 7 whereas it didn't on Trisquel 6, but the solution is pretty simple: left-click on a video, choose "Properties", and go to the "Open with" tab. You have to do it individually for each video type, but chances are you're only habitually watching a couple different types of videos, anyway.

You can configure the default application for any type of file this way. I configured XML files to open in Mousepad rather than a Web browser, for example.

Ah yes! I actually have done the right-click method before. Yeah you're right about habitually wathcing a file format. Thanks!

Nah, but I think I will be fine with onpon4's reply.

I had the same problem in both Trisquel 6 and 7. I just uninstalled the preinstalled video player so I didn't have to change the default application for every format I use.

Haha! Did that too already before, but I thought that it might be helfpul to have an extra player in some cases. You know, for example you're travelling and especially in my case I can't use wifi (need yet to get a Free Software wifi adapter). Imagine if I only had VLC and then it does not play, and I'm in a middle of a trip. -_-

Anyway, I'm settled for now. But of course, still looking forward for the fix for this one. :)
