coNNect. I'm coming from Ubuntu, where it just worked. In Trisquel, It just says disconnected instead of displaying available networks.

Do you know what driver you used in Ubuntu?

No, but I know it wasn't proprietary. I didn't have to enable or download anything with jockey.

According to this list kept by the FSF, an RT61 chipset requires non-free firmware. The list also says that a Linksys WMP54G v4 works in a fully-free system, but not v4.1 (I presume it's because v4.1 doesn't use the same chipset). You should confirm which one you have.

So perhaps it worked in Ubuntu because Ubuntu has that firmware in its default installation? Ubuntu doesn't separate free and non-free software nearly as well as Debian, so just because you didn't have to select it with jockey doesn't guarantee it was free software.
