Hello, is it possible to install the Mate desktop on trisquel and how could I do that? Also is Mate regarded as fully free or not?

Also, just wondering why trisquel does not use Firefox?

thankyou.

Kind of an unrelated question, but Trisquel doesn't use Firefox because of the trademark restrictions. Most importantly, one restriction only allows use of the trademark with non-commercial distributions, which makes Firefox non-libre (you only have freedom 2 if it's non-commercial). Abrowser is also slightly modified, and the trademark restrictions don't allow use of the name "Firefox" with modified versions.

Abrowser also uses a default add-ons page that only lists libre add-ons. Trisquel 7 will be using GNU IceCat, although this will make little practical difference, see http://trisquel.info/en/forum/goodbye-abrowser-long-live-abrowser

Just one thing to add luckygrl, since you are used to Mint, you might expect to install MATE and get the same desktop interface... but some things will be actually different (the nice start menu with the search function for example is a notable difference). Those differences were made by the Linux Mint Team themselves, and do not belong to the MATE project itself. You can add those yourself, of course, but just don't expect everything to come already fixed ;)
