Mounting HP Slate tablet as a USB external drive in Trisquel

I've got an HP Slate tablet. Apparently, it's possible to plug the USB charger cable into the USB port on a computer, and mount the tablet as a browsable drive. The device probably only comes with a Windows driver by default, and plugging it into my partner's MacBook doesn't seem to do anything. Any suggestions on how to get Trisquel to recognise it?

Any USB connection menu showed by the tablet when the tablet (it's Android, isn't it?) gets plugged in?
