Trisquel 7 Nouveau drivers

I have been trying out Trisquel 7 and I like it. On my laptop I cannot seem to get the correct resolution or pick which driver I am using. I would like to use the Nouveau drivers. When I try to install I see that they are already installed but I cannot find a way to choose to use them. I have an older laptop with the nvidia nv44 chipset. I have successfully used the Nouveau drivers with other Linux distros so I am assuming that they support my chipset. Any ideas on what I am missing, or should I just wait for a final release of Trisquel 7?
Thanks.

Open a terminal and input

xrandr --prop|head -n 15

do you see the EDID block there?

Is the module loaded?

lsmod|grep nouveau

If that gives you output then yes it is.

Running
xrandr --prop|head -n 15
Gives me
bash: xrandr: command not found

I tired installing xrandr and it install fine. I reran the command and got the same output. I restarted and reran the command and got the same output.

lsmod|grep nouveau

This does give me output
nouveau 969577 0
mxm_wmi 12893 1 nouveau
wmi 18673 2 mxm_wmi,nouveau
i2c_algo_bit 13197 1 nouveau
ttm 76794 1 nouveau
drm_kms_helper 47182 1 nouveau
drm 244037 3 ttm,drm_kms_helper,nouveau
video 18903 1 nouveau

Not sure what to do next. I appreciate any help. The system is perfectly usable so it's not that big of a deal just kind of an annoyance.

Thanks.

Looks like xrandr is in the x11-xserver-utils package, did you install that?

You could try a newer Linux-libre kernel e.g. from http://jxself.org/linux-libre/

Hope you get it sorted out.

Thanks for your help. I couldn't get it working and trying the fixes kept me going further down the rabbit hole. I just installed Trisquel 6 and everything is working great.
