How does one set up printing from the GUI? The default install left me
with a printing configuration panel that is unusable -- the System
Settings panel lists "Printers" but the printers panel's "Add New
Printer" button is ghosted and unclickable.

No printers are automatically determined and thus no printers are
available in the OS despite that there is a networked printer on the LAN
up and running.

Thanks.

You might try opening a web browser and typing localhost:631 and seeing if you can add the printer that way.

For honesty's sake - the mere presence of a working printer is no guarantee that drivers are readily available. You could try searching for the something along the lines of 'printer make and model & linux drivers' too see if anyone else has met success getting it to work.

install the package "system-config-printer-gnome" and run
"system-config-printer" to setup similar to Trisquel 6
