when a company goes up for sale, what happens to the data we entrusted them?

Lots of folks have lost their long-promised pensions in similar ways. That's why we now have access to TIAA-CREF and 401-k plans. I have a NAS and I keep copies of all my emails and webpages ... not to mention paper reports from years past. I refer to all of this as "work product." Watch over it.
