Testing Taranis

Beta images available at http://devel.trisquel.info/taranis/

There are currently three methods for installing Trisquel 4.0:

  1. Updating from Trisquel 2.2 or 3.5, with this command
    sudo update-manager -d
    
  2. Doing a fresh install using the netinstall images
  3. With the Live CD installer, for those editions with beta live images available.
    • Currently available for Trisquel and Trisquel mini.

Minimal requirements

  • Live CD installer: 384MB RAM, i686 processor (Pentium Pro or later).
  • Network installer: 32MB RAM, i686 processor.
  • Standard GNOME desktop environment: 256 MB RAM, 4GB HD.
  • Mini LXDE desktop environment: 96MB RAM, 2GB HD.

  • GNOME based desktop and server education oriented installation for schools.

Trisquel Pro

    • LTSP server

Trisquel Mini

  • Light, LXDE based, desktop installation for laptops and old computers.

Trisquel on a Sugar Toast

  • Sugar Learning Plataform on a live installable CD/USB media.

Trisquel Gamer

  • A GNOME based live DVD full of free games. Community maintained.

Netinstall images

  • Minimal network installer images. Provides advanced installation methods.
  • Dump disk image available, use this command to dump it into a -ready to be erased- USB drive, replacing X with your drive letter:
    dd if=image.img of=/dev/sdX
    
  • BETA images available

FSF membercard images

  • The standard GNOME based Live CD with FSF text, audio and video advocacy goodies.

  • It should use the i386 kernel instead of the i686 one

  • Gnome-app-install categories messed up (fixed)
  • Print test page shows the Ubuntu logo (fixed)
  • The multimedia player in Preferred Applications is "Custom (rhythmbox)"
  • In the help browser, left-clicking html links does not work
  • In Exaile, CD tracks fail to be identified; installing the python-cddb package (115kb) fixes this problem. (fixed)

Browser

  • Java plugin missing
    • From now on we will follow with java the same rule applied to mono: included in the repos but not preinstalled.
  • Gnash can't play youtube videos (fixed)

Mini Edition

  • ntfs-3g not installed
  • gnome-media not installed
  • browser proxy not configurable


Misc. Notes

Included updates

  • Gnash 0.8.8, plays Youtube videos out of the box
  • VLC 1.1.0, plays WebM

Recommended Applications

  • Déjà Dup is a good choice for a simple backup utility.
  • shotwell (included)
