I purchased a wireless USB adapter and used it to successfully connect to my home wireless network in Trisquel. But Abrowser cannot connect to any website on the internet. Is this a hardware problem or a software problem?
My network adapter is Broadcom 802.11n. Where can I change its settings in Trisquel?

I can connect to my wireless network in Windows 7, but I can't do the same thing in Trisquel.

Sorry, I made a mistake. I can connect to the *internet* in Windows 7, but I can't do the same thing in Trisquel.
When I use Trisquel, I can connect to my wireless network, but I cannot access websites.
So all other internet apps work but not abrowser? Does it make a difference if you go in abrowser to prefs > advanced > network > settings and try do change your proxy to none or system settings.
If not, I thought I could figure out from that lsusb listing which one is your wireless USB thingy but I can't (or is it even listed?) If you run lsusb with the wireless adapter attached and detached, is there a difference? What is it?

Stupid idea but what gives you "ping www.trisquel.info" in a Terminal for an output ?

You could try plugging in the computer with Ethernet and testing Abrowser. That should let you know if it's a problem with the wireless or not.
I can use Abrowser to connect to the internet as long as a LAN cable is plugged in to my computer. A wired connection works fine, but a wireless connection does not.

Not Abrowser is your problem but your adress resolution. Could you please post the output of ifconfig ?

My Thinkpenguin wireless USB adapter is white. Does this mean that the device is the wrong one?
I noticed something while I am using Windows 7. When I connect to the internet, the computer sometimes use a specific IP address and a specific DNS server address. Sometimes, this setup does not work and I will fail to connect to the internet.
When I told the computer to obtain an IP address and a DNS server address automatically, I will always be able to connect to the internet. Do you think this has something to do with the problem?
Usually your PC gets it's IP from the DHCP server within your router plus the required DNS. So leaving things to "get everything automatic" usually works and plays nice.
In Windows 7, I have to go to Control Panel>Network and sharing center>Change adapter settings. Then I will select a device and change its settings.
The problem is, I don't know how to do the same thing in Trisquel.

Do you have a Trisquel live CD/media handy? I'd suggest booting from it and testing with it. If you can get to that point I'd probably try the following.
1. Unplug the ethernet cable
2. Plug the USB G adapter in
3. Using the network applet in the lower right select the access point you would like to connect to
Does it say it is connected?
4. Open up your web browser
5. Type in https://www.affinityfcu.org/ and hit enter
Did a website come up? If so the USB G adapter works. There is probably something wrong with your Trisquel configuration.
If not I'd try typing in 192.168.1.1 and see if you can access your network router configuration page (it appears thats what it is based on the above info although it could be any of: 192.168.1.100, 192.168.0.1, 192.168.0.100, 192.168.2.1, 192.168.2.100, and possibly something else, although these are generally the standard ones for most home routers)
Now if it didn't work (the web site) then there is probably an issue with your router/network setup. It might be worth resetting the connection. Turn the modem off, turn the router off, turn the modem back on, wait 60 seconds, turn the router back on.
It could be the router is setup oddly like DHCP is setup to issue IP addresses only. And you need to set the DNS manually in Trisquel. If I understood what you did in MS Windows though it sounds like the router is setup to issue IP addresses and DNS info. However the fact you need to sometimes go in and change stuff on MS Windows suggests something else is incorrectly configured. Maybe you have two routers that are both trying to issue DHCP addresses or something similar.
If you open a terminal I wouldn't mind seeing the output of the following:
iwconfig
ifconfig -a
* after you are connected, and doing so from the live media/CD
When I tried to boot from the Live CD, Trisquel demanded that I provide a username and a password. I didn't know what to type, so I quit and booted from my hard disk instead.
I tried your suggestions. I can connect to the wireless network with the USB Adapter, but I cannot access any website at all, including my router configuration page. Turning the router off and on didn't work either. I tried typing the two commands in Terminal. I got this:

iwconfig and ifconfig might be only available to root. So you may need to switch user first (su).
I have only one router.
I tried to switch to root, but I do not know the root password. Am I supposed to create the root password by myself? If so, how do I do that?
Use sudo su to become super user, that way it will ask your password.

I'm not sure what is going on although the
Open firefox and go to Edit > Preferences > Advanced > Network > Settings and change the setting to No proxy. Click OK, Close, and try connecting to a web site again.
Also open up the terminal and ping 192.168.1.1
Wait 5 seconds and hit ctrl+c. Copy the output here.
From the network settings makes sure you have the wireless settings set to get an IP address automatically.
To do that go here:
Trisquel Menu > System Settings
Then select the network icon and then wireless.
You should be able to find the same basic networking stuff.

Unfortunately, that did not work.
I made sure that my wireless connection's IPV4 and IPV6 settings were set to 'Automatic', but I still can't access websites.
