See the free software directory at FSF's website.

Please note that not all free software are released under GPL. There are other copyleft free software licenses and also non-copyleft free software.

Just to note, that page lists some proprietary games.

I also don't like that it requires JavaScript.

While I understand the objection to the phrase "open source" here, that isn't, in itself, a reason to mistrust an information source. If proprietary games are in a list of "open source games', that's a mistake, just as it would be if there were proprietary games are in a list of "free software games". Pointing out the mistake to whoever made the list is more helpful than muttering darkly about how anyone who uses this or that phrase can't be trusted.

I seriously doubt the maintainer of the list added those games by mistake, because they do fit the usual interpretation of "open source". The particular games I noticed were AssaultCube (libre engine, but proprietary scripts) and PlaneShift (libre engine, but data that is not allowed to be used with modified engines).
