I'm trying to use the default video player (Totem) in Trisquel 8 and when I run it via Terminal, by typing "totem" I see the following:

MESA-LOADER: failed to retrieve device information
MESA-LOADER: failed to retrieve device information
libva info: VA-API version 0.39.0
libva info: va_getDriverName() returns 0
libva info: Trying to open /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/dri/i965_drv_video.so
libva info: Found init function __vaDriverInit_0_39
intel_do_flush_locked failed: Invalid argument
libva info: va_openDriver() returns 0

Any idea how I can solve this error and get Totem working?

It looks like the issue is with Intel's rendering code, in the kernel. Have you tried running totem with a different version of the kernel?
