What's the deal?

Is it concerning that LBRY is using Google and Amazon for their hosting?

Is LBRY to be phased out in favour of ODYSEE?

It looks like ODYSEE is just an alternate skin for LBRY. It's not a different platform. Its terms of service and privacy policy links are just links to LBRY's TOS and privacy policy, which you probably don't want to agree to.

Using Google or Amazon to host anything is bad, but LBRY is a crypto ponzi scheme worth staying away from anyway.

As people continue to wake up to the threats posed by the current big tech giants, we're going to see more and more LBRYs/Braves/Purisms/Bitchutes pop up trying to make some quick money off of them by telling them what they want to hear.

If you want an alternative to YouTube that's *actually* decentralized, I recommend PeerTube.

Oh shit. Thanks for the heads-up.

LBRY also requires javascript, which troubles me. How easy would it be for them to simply not use javascript?

Also, do you have any insights into rokfin.com ?

They have a desktop client under a free license. That's not so much the issue. My problems with LBRY are more that (1) they claim to be decentralized, but since there is no federation, you can't actually use the platform without being subject to the company's TOS, which puts them in charge of everyone who uses the platform and (2) their businiess model is based on leveraging their power to force adoption of their cryptocurrency, driving up the value of that currrency to enrich the creators and early adoptors. I explained this in more detail here.[1]

Never heard of them, but if you want to evaluate them, ignore any marketing materials and ask questions like these:

* Is it independent, or funded by investor capital?

* If it is for-profit, how does it plan to make money?

* Is it free software?

* Is it federated, meaning can someone use the software to set up their own instance with their own TOS and privacy policy?

* Are the current TOS and privacy policy something you are comfortable agreeing to in exchange for access to the platform?

Alright, I shall make it my next project.

I have taken notice of some very smart people who are not technically-focused echoing that "bitchute is decentralized" , and the like.

It looks bad.

rokfin.com :

- Livestream and video hosting
- Proprietary
- Users pay for subscriptions ( Only with Credit Cards )
- Creators get paid in a new RAE token crypto-currency
- Can only withdraw the tokens to Google/Facebook account or Phone. ( I think I have that right )
- Centralized
- Terms of Service seem restrictive for the users , and they don't guarantee security if there is a software failure or something. ( I am not experienced reading these )
- They didn't mention their hosting, but I resolved rokfin.com to their IP address and plugged it into iplocation.com , and it says " Organization : Amazon "

What are content creators supposed to do who are being censored by the censorship kings!? They are forced to use these platforms if they still want to have a voice.
