Linterna Magica doesn't seem to work with YouTube on the newest version of Epiphany (video stops playing after a few seconds). Dailymotion works fine.

Here is the log when running Epiphany from terminal and opening a YouTube video using Linterna Magica with Totem plugin.

Thanks for the log. On which distribution you have Epiphany/Web 3.4.1?
Currently I am using Trisquel Brigantia and Epiphany is on version
3.0.4. Yesterday I noticed that I'm unable to upgrade, because there are
a lot of conflicts while the package manager tries to resolve
dependencies, so my information might be out of date.

Few days ago I had a temporary problem playing YouTube with Totem and
Iceweasel 3.5 on Debian (stable). There is a slight chance this is a
temporary issue too. The YouTube clip from the log is playing fine (1
min 30 sec tested) in Epiphany 3.0.4. Can you reproduce this with
another browser? It might be a network issue or YouTube making changes.
Usually when the stream starts playing, the video plugin is handling
everything, so I do not know if I can do anything in Linterna Mágica to
fix the issue.

P.S. If you are replying via e-mail, please keep the CC to
linterna-magica-users at nongnu dot org. Even better add the CC with
your first e-mail about Linterna Mágica issues, or write directly only
to that list. Thanks!

I tested Epiphany/Web on Parabola. Epiphany/Web uses libwebkit3 (with GTK3 support) while Midori uses libwebkit. In the last week both libraries were updated twice and the Totem plugin was updated as well. The only way to properly view YouTube on Epiphany is to downgrade the library libwebkit3, but that library is also used by other programmes (such as Empathy) that would also need to be downgraded in order to work. On Midori YouTube and other sites work fine with Linterna Magica, so the problem I'm describing is probably about compatibility of Linterna Magica with libwebkit3 as it works fine with libwebkit. Epiphany didn't work properly after the first libwebkit3 upgrade (artefacts were evident on the screen while scrolling) so perhaps another upgrade will fix this issue as well. It should be noted that Epiphany also failed to play YouTube via Linterna Magica when using ROSA Media Player (and ROSA also works fine on Midori).

Thanks. I have a Parabola installation on a virtual machine image. I'll
test and see if I can reproduce and fix it, if it is at all fixable. It
might be an issue of the video plugin. Right now I can't imagine what
the issue would be with Linterna Mágica, so it extracts a link and it
stops x seconds later. From Linterna Mágica's point of view a link is
either extracted and it work, or a broken link is extracted and it does
not work. There is no in-the-middle link as the issue you are
describing. I guess it should be a problem of the network, the video
plugin or just YouTube.

I'm unable to reproduce the issue. The playback does not stop as you
describe. The current stable version seems to have some problems with
YouTube (two objects are created) in Epiphany 3.4.1, but the current
trunk doesn't. There will be a new stable release soon, so I guess it
does not matter. If you find other issues on Parabola, please report
them, because after upgrading few times the Parabola install I have in a
virtual machine, it is now dead slow for some reason.

About the compatibility with libwebkit3. I don't know if such thing is
possible. At least I can't imagine how the code of Linterna Mágica can
cause this. If there are bugs in JavaScriptCore, the WebKit JavaScript
backend, then maybe. Linterna Mágica uses pure JavaScript, nothing
fancy, so theoretically must work fine in any JavaScript engine.
