Totem crashing

Totem has been working fine again since some time, after tweaking apparmor.

Since a couple of weeks I am getting crashes with the following messages whenever I select a video from the Totem list:

(totem:11448): Gdk-ERROR **: 20:41:35.137: The program 'totem' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'GLXBadContext'.
(Details: serial 4948 error_code 170 request_code 155 (GLX) minor_code 26)
(Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the GDK_SYNCHRONIZE environment
variable to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

I tried to downgrade from the current version of the package (etiona-updates) to the earlier version (etiona) to no avail. Is there a way to force an even older version, given that there has been no security upgrades?

Else, I might as well give up on Totem for good. Pity, because I liked the lean interface quite much.

I meant that Totem had been working fine again in Trisquel 8 after I added an apparmor profile. I did not notice any difference after upgrading to Trisquel 9.

The current crashes do not prevent viewing videos but are annoying since the Totem "Videos" view is the shortest path to local video files from the Totem interface.

EDIT: the last version of the Totem package has this timestamp: Tue, 15 Jan 2019 16:24:26 -0500. Should one conclude from this that the above bug will never be addressed in Trisquel 9?

Yeah, in my experience that's just something Totem does. I recommend using a better media player like MPV or VLC.

Ah thanks, that'll settle it for me then.

I was already using VLC but thought something less ambitious might prove at least as reliable. I was wrong.

If you don't need all of VLC's features and want something lighter and simpler, I recommend MPV.

Thank you very much, that's exactly what I needed. Difficult to imagine a leaner interface.

VLC is great software but quite an overshoot for most of my needs.
