Windows user here
Just made an account in case I need to use Linux for something. Nice forum you have here.
Linux is good for the GNU Operating System. You know, Linux is the kernel. Combined, they make GNU/Linux as of this site's parlance.
Just to get this minor detail out of the way, mind you.
Welcome, and take your Freedom and use it wisely.
I installed Windows Subsystem for Linux, I have Linux right inside Windows Operating System. I'm aware about freedom issues of Windows, that is why I'm here. Also curious about the whole Linux thing all together.
"Also curious about the whole Linux thing all together."
I don't know how much you know but this might be a good point to start at to learn about that topic.

How did you first learn about GNU/Linux distros and Trisquel and software freedom, do you recall? Was it from online videos, or from reading philosophical books on freedom issues?
I'm just curious, as we are having a debate about whether or not online videos can be a good way of sharing our views about the 4 software freedoms.
we are having a debate
Who are 'we'?
I think andyprough refers to:
https://trisquel.info/en/forum/hyperbola-getting-little-love-video-popular-u-tuber-today
In that case "we are having a debate about whether or not online videos can be a good way of sharing our views about the 4 software freedoms" seems a mischaracterization, as I was commenting on my perceptions about that one specific video, not online videos in general. And more specifically even than that to andyprough's "Hopefully a few people will see it and will get interested in fully libre distros." That outcome seems not likely from that one specific video due to framing free software so poorly: Linux-libre is for if you want hardware that's not going to work (1:20) and free distros are for the technically knowledgeable Richard Stallman types (1:50). If I were new to free software and saw that video it would not cause me to become more interested because it was not, in my view, being portrayed in a positive light. Online videos, as a general idea, can be a good way to spread the message about free software if they're done right, and that doesn't happen when you frame free software as a way for Richard Stallman-types to have a nonfunctioning computer. If the goal is to push people away from free software then presenting it in that way seems a great way to go about it. Otherwise there are much better ways to go about presenting free software to people to get them interested.
Says we aren't having a debate.
Proceeds to debate. Again.
Brilliant!
I thought GNUbahn was suggesting having a philosophical debate about human identity.

After work I'm usually having some beers with my co-workers. Our PHP guy was whining about how he is forced to use non free Linux at work. He told us some stuff, I got curious and now I have Linux in Windows Subsystem installed. No offence but I'm still thinking about Linux as some sort of joke, hence my user name. Today I will grab some beer and watch a bunch of videos about GNU and Linux, and the ogg file somebody gave me link to.
The Linux kernel is running billions of devices planet-wide. That's a very odd joke.
Did you hear the one about the Year of Desktop Linux?
So you would like to run your graphical desktop environment for an entire year with nothing but a Linux kernel? No init process, no boot loader, no graphics server - nothing else? That will be quite an amazing accomplishment, I eagerly await your screenshots and your video walkthrough.

You are so cute, failing to notice that the joke is on you.
Microsoft is slowly, quietly switching its operating system to the
kernel Linux. And when it finally happens you'll say, 'Don't call it
Linux, it is Windows/Linux'.
Kind regards,
Ignacio Agulló.
On a second thought... You know what? I'm out of here!
Okay, goodbye Master Windu.
I'm pretty sure that Windows Master is a craftsman in stained glass, probably for large European cathedrals.
Sorry, guys! Your OS is definitely not my thing, bye!
¿Windows user or Windows Troll?
I guess Windows Troll.
Weak bait.
