There are a few gigabyte ga g41m es2l for sale. No new ones. But is not fatuous to buy
the mainboard because it will break soon?
I had an amd atx mainboard. Because I installed a geforce 8400 graphics card debian
main would work on the computer. Now the mainboard is broke. I assume everything
else hardware works.
One seller says he is selling new asus kfsn4 dre.
I do not know if that can be confirmed. Then I noticed the mainboard is to big
for an atx cabinet. That is why I did not get one.
What low priced used atx mainboard would you suggest for debian 9 64bit main?
Thanks.
If you want to replace the proprietary UEFI/BIOS with coreboot, you can just choose one from the coreboot wiki.
GeForce 8400 is very weak and you'd better forget it. Sandy Bridge and Ivy Bridge integrated graphics beat it easily. Just choose one H61/H67/Z68/B75/H77/Z77 board (with coreboot support) and one 3rd-generation Core i5 CPU.
And most importantly, buy one Atheros WLAN card! (Otherwise you'll have to rely on proprietary firmware...)
It's disappointing that the machines supported by libreboot are mostly old (with one exception.) Going with coreboot in order to have newer introduces blobs; this is why libreboot exists. But until better options come along (and there is no promise that they will) this is the reality that we're in for the world of x86 machines: You must choose between freedom and the newness of the machine. Moving off x86 is probably our best option in the long-term.
