Are there any new components on the market today that could together make a free desktop pc?

Riscv processors? Thalos motherboards?

Does it have to be "new"? Because you have more options if you remove that criteria of "new".

The various boards mentioned on https://libreboot.org/docs/hardware/ are available and some are cheap. The Gigabyte GA-G41M-ES2L can be found on aliexpress.com for example for $25. It's used of course.

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/GIGABYTE-GA-G41M-ES2L-Desktop-Motherboard-G41-Socket-LGA-775-For-Core-2-DDR2-8G-Micro/32885267192.html

But the board is one component of a complete system. You could buy everything else new: Case, power supply, RAM, keyboard, monitor, hard disk/SSD, etc.

But if you want the criteria of "new" then yes - the KGPE-D16 is the only x86 motherboard supported by libreboot that's still in production. That's also why x86 is a sinking ship: Since they're discontinued they'll become harder and harder to find over time. Even the KGPE-D16 will be discontinued eventually because no board remains in production for forever. It's a big problem for our own sustainability. This is one of the reasons why it's time to evacuate the Titanic: https://jxself.org/titanic.shtml

But are there any power CPUs for sale? And/or RISC-V?

POWER: https://www.raptorcs.com/TALOSII/
It's available today.

RISC-V:
https://www.crowdsupply.com/sifive/hifive1/
It's also available today.

https://www.crowdsupply.com/sifive/hifive-unleashed
It's available in November.

There's also http://libre-riscv.org/shakti/m_class/ for the future - time period unknown. From the same person that's working on EOMA68/A20. With the idea of it also being the same form factor and so you can re-use the same EOMA68 stuff (case, etc.) So it's also helpful to support the EOMA68 work by buying stuff:

So this: https://www.raptorcs.com/content/TL2DS1/intro.html
is a totally free complete desktop as free as it can be? What OS is it compatible with?

So this: https://www.crowdsupply.com/sifive/hifive1/
and this: https://www.crowdsupply.com/sifive/hifive-unleashed
is totally free mainboards as free as they can be? What OS are they compatible with?

The Eoma68 is also interesting, but doesn't it have some minor freedom issues?

And why aren't any of these mentioned by FSF?

Well sign me up for a Raptor damnit! :D

But does it support Trisquel?

And what about the graphics?

Seems to me there are no graphic cards in the Raptor machines?

Well, scratch that. It seems as though their "Development system" does not include graphics card, but the "Workstation" does.

Just pick a motherboard without Boot Guard. Then nothing is (theoretically) impossible.

Stay away from Skylake or newer architectures.

And what about graphics card drivers to the graphic card in the Raptor system.

Raptor ships with (optionally) this: https://www.amd.com/en/products/professional-graphics/radeon-pro-wx-7100

Does that work out of the box with regular OSes like Trisquel?

No external drivers needed?

I am really confused about this.

Trisquel does not support POWER9 CPUs. Debian GNU/Linux does. The free driver for AMD video cards is not good.

What do you mean by "not good"?

Not having the maximal available resolution, not having 3D acceleration, etc. People having AMD cards would better tell.

hings look good on https://wiki.freedesktop.org/xorg/RadeonFeature/ ... but many of the features require a proprietary firmware to properly work or at all.

It is a lower priced talos computer.

If specifications lists vga port then can't we assume it has graphics?

> power CPU

Yes. https://raptorcs.com/content/CP9M01/intro.html

> What OS is it compatible with?

Raptor told me, there is a debian iso. I assume it is free software.

> And why aren't any of these mentioned by FSF?

Fsf's policy is that the manufacturer has to apply for fsf's respect your freedom certificate. Either the manufacturer gets it or not. If the mainboards do not have fsf's respect
your freedom certificate it is because the manufacturer has not applied or has applied but
not complied to fsf's requirements.

> confused about this

I think you have to realize the sifive unleashed is an alfa or beta mainboard. I assume it
is largely unfinished. In terms of the system they say the mainboard is linux
compatible. Sifive likely mean gnulinux.

About raptor I have not watched a video showing a running talos computer. I have
not noticed any reviews on the matter.

I have emailed raptor on the subject of a talos atx computer. They answered. If you have questions
about talos products and email raptor they probably answer you.
