I understand that money is needed for many things but I really hate the idea of ads on this web site. Isn't there any alternative?

No, there is no advertisement in our software.

What do you find wrong in having ads? We've chosen an ethical way to
help us funding the project with ads by selecting a network which allows
us to manually approve every ad -a method that will lower our revenue
and will take more time and effort-, to avoid showing non-ethical ads.

We will enable a direct donation method this weekend, and a also a gift
store in the next days. You can use an ad blocker if you like, but we
hope you don't. We placed our ads in the most unobtrusive way we found.

I can't agree, and there are several reasons why. (it's not directly related to free software)

On a smaller scale, you give companies with more money an advantage over companies with less, just because one can afford to spend more on advertisement. For example, one of the reasons--and probably the main one--why Microsoft's OS and Apple's OS have more users, is because they can afford more advertisement over any GNU/Linux distribution. (I understand that you won't allow any Microsoft or Apple advertisement, but that's beside the point)

On a bigger scale, advertisement increases the prizes of all products, and does not contribute to society in any way - all advertisement does is hinder society.

In all seriousness, you're not making a very good case for our movement's argument that it is possible to make money from Free Software. Certainly, there is excess in advertisement, but I am convinced we'll avoid it.

Error: anthropomorphization overload.

What on earth are you talking about?

I'm talking about Microsoft, if that weren't apparent enough.
