Why are free fonts necessary?
Uncomplicated shapes cannot be copyrighted, and letters in fonts are shapes, you may wonder why fonts can be copyrighted. Fonts can only be copyrighted because they are actually programs written to render (draw) the fonts. Just like any other software, fonts should be free.

  • Anton is a free alternative to Impact. License: OFL
  • Aroania is a free replacement for Verdana. License: "Fonts in this site are offered free for any use; they may be installed, embedded, opened, edited, modified, regenerated, posted, packaged and redistributed."
  • Comic Relief is a free replacement for Comic Sans. License: OFL
  • Courier Prime is a free replacement for Courier and Courier New. License: OFL
  • Fira Sans is a free replacement for FF Meta. Scroll to the bottom of the linked page for download links. License: OFL
  • Overpass is a free replacement for Interstate. License: OFL or Apache License (AL).
