Hi guys, I need help setting up my usb dongle on my t400. Yes, I have a libreboot compatible notebook but I don't have the skill to open it and install it yet.

The internal wifi card I didn't change and in the network manager it shows the message both from the non-free card and my atheros usb as "wifi disabled by hardware".

I have already changed the physical button where the bluetooth symbol appears on, but the internal wifi does not appear because I believe that linux-libre already blocks it by software. I tried to check the bios too, but the message is still the same. Although by command line I can see if the message appears disabled by hardware, but in the visual network manager it remains the same.

These were the steps I did up to where I left off:

Are you sure that your USB wireless NIC is really an ath9k-htc?

The best option is to replace your internal wireless NIC (be it Intel or Realtek) with an Atheros one. The usable Atheros card for X200/T400/W500 series bears Lenovo's FRU number 43Y6511.

Yes...
lsusb
Bus 001 Device 005: ID 0cf3:9271 Qualcomm Atheros Communications AR9271 802.11n

And this device has already worked with trisquel on another computer right when it is placed.

Excuse my English:
I wanted to open my notebook, but as I said, I don't have the skills. I'm a bit clumsy.

I also created the interface file with the following line:

////////////////////////////////
auto wlxc46e1f18678b
iface wlxc46e1f18678b inet dhcp

wpa-ssid myessidname
wpa-psk mykeyname
////////////////////////////////

but it didn't work out. I found out that the auto parameter takes too long for my operating system to start. They tell me to put allow-hotplug in place which improves it, but I haven't tested it yet.

You only need to twist up to 7 screws to replace T400's wireless NIC: 4 securing the palmrest, 1 securing the keyboard, and 2 securing the wireless NIC card. The Hardware Maintenance Manual (HMM) can be retrieved from thinkpads.com

And you can buy one 43Y6511 from ebay or elsewhere.
