On March 18, long time before LibrePlanet[1] starts, I'll do a livestrem on peertube where I explain how I play games on my Talos II and ROCKPro64. Only libre licenced games of course, some of which can be found on Steam. But many games and apps on Steam are non-free and DRM'ed[2], and only work on x86 machines. My original talk that I proposed for libre-planet had been rejected because there were so many high quality talks[3], mine just did not fit in. So I allocated my own free and unuccupied time slot. Some of those games require a VR headset,
including BeepSaber[4], a VR rhythm game implemented using Godot Engine.

That looks awesome! What is your RockPro64 setup, could you give us some details?

Currently I run Debian without any non-free software. Display out over type-C requires a proprietary firmware on RK3399, I'll soon try to install that one and start reverse engineering. If that succeeds I'll try to drive the Valve Index using my docking station.

I also have a Guix installation and a PureOS chroot, of course I will try out Trisquel when it is released.

Can you share details on how to access the livestream in advance, including the URL and time in the relevant time zone?

Yes, I'm going to do that. Today I found out that the peertube instance is broken for live streaming, so I'm currently looking for a solution.

I'm going to do my Talk "Gaming on a Talos II - how I avoid using Steam" at LibrePlanet this weekend. A speaker just cancelled and the FSF has a free remote speaker spot on Saturday, March 18, 10:00 - 10:45 EDT (14:00 UTC).

A short table of contents of my talk:
* 1 the FSF certified Talos II Mainboard and the POWER9 CPU
* 2 libre games, including Godot4 ones and the port to ppc64el
* 3 vr games, how I use my Valve Index with libsurvive
* 4 libre-soc, vulkan and the future of libre gaming

In the morning, before libreplanet starts, I will do a live hacking session via BigBlueButton. Unfortunately my peertube instance is still broken.

That would be the "Neptune - online" spot, I believe.

Unfortunately it has been cancelled again, so I postpone everything to next year. Then I will have SlimeVR working, and most likely also lighthouse tracking with the ICE40 FPGA. Tomorrow I'll post a ten minutes prerecorded talk and post it to my MediaGoblin page.

Yesterday, a few hours before libreplanet started, I began compiling SlimeVR on my Thinkpad X200 running Trisquel Aramo RC1, it took over 12 hours:

Today, I prerecorded my video, hopefully having a new RYF product at libreplanet 2024, unfortunately MediaGoblin rejected that file:
