Would it be worth it to upgrade a compaq presario v2000z 1.6 ghz single core X86 2gb of ram to 120 ssd hard drive? Would I notice fewer freezing of apps with gnome? The laptop uses pata connection to hard drive.

Would I notice overall better performance?

I don't know about GNOME apps freezing, but you'll notice a difference when data is being retrieved from the SSD-- for example, programs will launch faster, and file management will be snappier. I've upgraded my Thinkpad x60 with an SSD and it's definately faster when it comes to the previously mentioned areas.

Programs being launched faster and things generally starting faster is the main
advantage. On my brother's ASUS Zenbook UX51VZ (with 8GB RAM, an i7 quad-core,
and a 256GB SSD) GNOME shell starts in about two seconds. When I installed
GNOME shell on my computer (an ASUS N43SL with 4GB RAM, an i5 quad-core, and a
500GB HDD) to try it out, it took over a minute to load. The thing is, there's
no significant difference between the two computers in terms of processing
things (the i7 isn't that much faster than the i5) and they both have enough
RAM. There is a massively noticeable difference between the two in writing and
reading from disk. On his computer, programs launch instantaneously 99% of the
time (even when running GNOME!). On mine, programs usually take a few seconds
to start (even when running Xfce). Even Xfce takes about 20 seconds to start up.

Needless to say, I use Xfce.

Even tho it is using old connectors? pata instead of the newer sata?
I need a new drive anyways because it has a gazillion of bad sectors on the drive can't believe it still works that's probably why my system is so slow right?

Hi, your laptop I think that it uses a IDE connector, you can buy a something like this:

http://www.ebay.es/itm/351543394143?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

But, I don't know if your SSD+adapter will fit in. So, IDE is obsolete.

My old Packard Bell 17 laptop has much space, only I need to do is cut screw holders and my SSD+adapter will fit (but with no screws).

Maybe you cant dissassemly you SSD and remove the case, and it might fit with adapter.

You cant find come IDE to mSATA (or M.2 SATA) adapter, I dont know if it exists.

http://www.addonics.com/products/adms25ide.php

https://duckduckgo.com/?q=ide+to+msata&t=trisquel&iax=1&ia=images

mSATA, SATA and M.2 SATA, are different ports.

Computer makers, made IDE port alredy obsolete and not retro compatible.

"So, IDE is obsolete."

i have a laptop from 2001 with a IDE SSD and i notice a speed increase it ran at about 120MB/S compared to 30MB/S with the hard drive

Can be, but how much IDE SSDs here to buy?

When I say Ide is obsolete, I refer to port and compatibility, not to performance.
