So I am nostalgic about pokemon and could love me a nice way to play some pokemon.

I believe the website "pokemon showdown" is open source project through github, but surely there's gotta be some issues?

Anyone know something about this?

Apparently the client-side JS[1] is AGPL, and the server-side software[2] is under a free pushover license. The artwork is presumably non-free, but the software seems fine.

Wow.

1. Thank you for actually taking time your time to investigate this, that's overwhelmingly helpful of you :) Cheers.

2. So it seems the Pokemon Showdown is "more free" than I first suspected. That's nice to know :) Guess I'll enjoy me some PD

It took like two minutes. :)

If software is free you should always be able to quickly find the license by browsing the source code. It's usually in a file called LICENSE or COPYiNG.

Calher is right though that there should be some indication of the license in the JS file on the website so that you don't have to know where the Github page is to determine the license.

Sounds awesome.  I see no license notices in the JS files linked in the
source.  Could someone patch it to have license headers, or even comply
with LibreJS?

Also, the Credits link at the bottom of the page says nothing about the
copyright of the JS.

Nothing on the site mentions that the JS is copyrighted and free.

What the site COULD say is this:

Initializing... FAILED

Pokémon Showdown requires JavaScript.  Don't worry, it's AGPL! [link to
web labels or source repo]

I know the source says "we're open source" but that doesn't reassure me
enough.
