I have posted here because I assume that asking about some features of this forum is "General Free Software Talk"

For quite a long time I have been reading from (and sometimes writing on ) a phpBB forum.

That means I could edit all of my posts at any time. Even years after I had originally written them. The editions that were done approximately within the first 15/20 minutes left no traces. In those that were done after, the system appended on that post the date and time it had been edited and the number of times it had been edited before that. (I don't remember having ever been limited in the number of my editions).
In this forum things seem different some of my previous post seem editable and others not. Unfortunately I haven't yet understood when I will be able to edit my posts and when not.
Can somebody please help to understand this ?

Secondly, I have seen that in Trisquel's forum, on the left side of some posts, columns of small gray circles sometimes appear. This didn't occur at all in the forums with which I was most familiar. These columns some times increase in number and other times they decrease and even disappear. I believe that the thread from where the capture of posts #64 and #65 were taken and I'm using as an illustration could also be used as an example for explaining how this system of gray circles works. I suspect it has something to do with the number of answers a thread has but I don't understand why they sometimes diminish and others they completely disappear.
Can somebody please help me to understand this too ?

Thank you for your time !

Thanks nickylodeon for your time

But a few minutes after I had saved my first post in this thread I discovered some mistakes in the Title and in the Content. I was decided to correct them but it was impossible to find a path to the edition state and the topic didn't seem locked nor nobody had answered yet.

You also wrote

Yes, I also share that idea. But, I wonder, do those columns help in locating in which of the previous post are the following posts nested? And if so, in what way?

Thank you very much!. The same to you!

You also cannot edit OP's, only comments.

To me they are quite clear. Think of them as clarifying the level of indentation. In the past, the Trisquel forum simply used indentation like many forums. However, the indents were very large, so as threads grew we'd quickly run out of horizontal space. Now the indents are very small, which saves horizontal space but would make them harder to notice without the grey circles. To see which post a comment is referring to, follow the adjacent grey column up to the post.

Even editing comments is a little inconsiderate, because we mailing
list users do not see changes to what has already been posted.

@ chaosmonk

Thanks you very much for offering your ideas and advice on these aspects of the forum.

I have been delaying my "thank you" message in the hope that

→ reading about linear(or flat) and hierarchical (or nested) arrangements in conversation threading
→ surfing threads in the Trisquel forum

would soon enable me to agree with the
"To me they are quite clear."
of your post.

Because it probably is a matter of practice I can't say the same yet, and because of that, I do not rule out writing a new message on this feature in the future

@ calher

Yes, thank you for reminding me this other feature.

I will have to consider it before each of my posts here in the future.

I must keep in mind that if migrating from different versions of the same distribution has its inconveniences, migrating from an out of the mainstream GNU-LINUX distribution to the Trisquel context will not be a piece of cake.

But it has its advantages!

The thanks you very much typo of the message I sent some minutes ago is the result of not being able to edit my message.
