My Abrowser seems to be connected to omantel.net.om. What is it? I have no problem while Abrowser is closed.

From what I can work out Abrowser leaves the TCP connections it used on the last page open active. From what I see on mine, I think your omantel.net.om connections will be to your ISP's CDN (content delivery network). You really only get a kind of 'virtual' access to the Internet with many connections, much of the popular content on the Internet being staged in your telcos tiered CDN starting with your local exchange. Try it, have just one tab open in abrowser (and only one abrowser) and do a lsof -i between fetches of different pages. That's what it looks like is happening to me.

Looks like I had a lot of open connections to a particular IP and whois said it's omantel. My hunch was perhaps it's some extension doing it and I went to disable my addons and the connections disappeared but they didn't come back when I again enabled the addons again. Dunno what to think of this.

Oh, I don't see omantel, but do see a small number of others to do with the page I'm using plus currently one which is a CDN, the number of this last type varies by page.

Perhaps we can get something out of the intersection of your and akfoss's extensions with the subtraction of mine.

I have Abrowser home, Adblock Plus, HTTPS-Everywhere, Youtube HTML5 Video Player as extensions plus the totem and vlc media plugins.

But it could be just that omantel are in the CDN business in your geographies.

I've tested and it's the one you two have that I didn't - NoScript. I don't get omantel but do get my ISP's CDN machines.

Looks like someone needs to check the NoScript source and if necessary create a privacy respecting fork. There's people here who have the skills - any volunteers? @Legimet?

I have a ton of addons, including all the ones mentioned in this thread including NoScript, but I don't get omantel.

I don't have this either, I find it rather interesting though. If OP is able to reproduce try running WireShark and upload the .pcap when it is connecting to this domain. Then someone here can review the internet traffic and see what's up.
