Hi all I'm going to move from ubuntu to this here trisquel. I booted from usb, wireless works fine but I prefer to keep that off and have my connections wired.
Ubuntu works fine with the wired connection but trisquel doesn't notice it at all.
I haven't installed it to the hard drive yet. I typed the MAC of the router into the wired connection field but that did nothing.

I'm very clueless so any help much appreciated.

Hi there!

Since Trisquel is basically Ubuntu minus the proprietary parts, the reason your Ethernet (wired) doesn't work likely is it requires proprietary software.

One option would be to purchase the 10/100 USB Ethernet adapter from https://www.thinkpenguin.com/catalog/wired-networking-56k-modems-gnulinux

Don't be scared by that 56k modem in the link name, lol!

Thinkpenguin donates 25% of their profits to Trisquel. In addition to that the CEO Chris is pretty active helping people on this forum.

Besides that there of course are plenty of internal Ethernet cards that work too but you'd have to pop open your laptop to install those. That could potentially be challenging, depending on the laptop model. You can search http://h-node.org for information on working Ethernet cards.

Thanks Lembas I've ordered one of those :)

Can't wait to be honest. This WiFi makes my head itch!

Must say I'm enjoying Trisquel.
Figured out how to apply the Gnome Shell with a lot of help from this forum and I've got to say I'm made up.

Thanks again
