Hey every one:

I'm asking this question on libresboot's irc channel, and I'm going to look if they have a forum too, but I also wanted to see if someone could help me here too.

I found the following computer and I was hopping it could support libreboot:

http://articulo.mercadolibre.com.mx/MLM-491566503-laptop-ibm-x60-mini-tablet-lcd-1212gb80gbwifi-bat-3hrs-_JM

The only thing that makes me wonder is the word "mini laptop" on the title. Which is not present in here http://www.libreboot.org/docs/hcl/index.html#supported_x60t_list

I hope you're not really considering spending $2,350 on it though? It's a nice machine but the price is crazy when a second hand X60 will run you less than $100.

I believe this website is using a different currency, Mexican Pesos (MXN), rather than US Dollars (USD), both of which happen to share the same dollar sign ($). At a $14.5MXN per $1 USD, that is actually about $162USD.

(the "Mini" part of the term doesn't really mean anything) I think so, since there's a service available to install Libreboot on the X60 tablet. http://shop.gluglug.org.uk/product/libreboot-installation-service/

Mmmmmm, that "please ask before ordering" doesn't give me a good feeling about it xD

I was hopping to do it my self :P

Yeah but they don't explicitly say it's not supported the way they said the X200 tablet wasn't.

Besides, the T60 installation offering also carries the ask-before-ordering note - and we all know that Libreboot works well enough with that laptop for Gluglug to have a T60 model.

I can't recommend GLUGLUG highly enough. I purchased one of the X60s laptops soon after GLUGLUG was launched (I like to think it was one of the first :)) and the level of service has been top notch ever since. Since that time they have expanded the supported hardware list and have provided gratis updates to libreboot for my X60s machine and the other supported machines.

The "please ask before ordering" statement you highlight demonstrates this. They are asking you to contact them before placing any order to ensure the service they offer is what you need for your machine. This ensures you don't pay for something that is not what you want or need. This demonstrates respect to you as a potential customer. Remember also, GLUGLUG is affiliated with the Libreboot project and so they don't even expect you to purchase one of their machines. They can install Libreboot for you on a machine you buy separately. Another demonstration of their level of service.

Even if you drop into their irc channel #libreboot, they will be more than willing to assist you in your own efforts. This has been my experience at least.

I already email them to ask them. I'm guessing they want you to make sure LCD panel is supported since not all x60 tablets LCD are.

After a while on hanging out with the cool guys at #libreboot IRC, I believe I found a way to make sure this machine is the one it says without having the seller to run commands. I haven't tested yet, but it seems one could input the serial number and see what components was built in with. Hope fully it will tell me the LCD panel too :)

I already asked the seller for the serial number. Fingers cross :D

I finally got my x60 tablet :)

I took a leap of faith and bough it without knowing which LCD panel I was going to get. Today I got the results...

Drums play please...

I got a BOE-Hydis HV121P01-100 which is compatible with libreboot :) Yeeeiiii

I'm posting some pictures, I'm really excited :)

Now comes the hardest part. Install libreboot without bricking the machine xD

But that will be for another day. Tonight I'll sleep well knowing I own a x60 tablet compatible with libreboot. Awesome :)

"Now comes the hardest part. Install libreboot without bricking the machine xD"

for the x60 if you know how to use a terminal then its much easier than it looks as the install is mostly automated with scripts

but if your worried about bricking you could ask here or

at the #libreboot irc channel and pepole would gladly guide you

I felt the same about my Thinkpad X61. I picked it up at a Good Will for less than $30 "broken" and it was my goto computer for almost 5 years! There wasn't anything wrong with it, it was just missing an operating system!
