Hello,
I have now my Trisquel system for a few days and I have a few Problems and I hope you could help me.
1:
Everytime when I try to start "Monitor Settings" then I get this error: unable to get monitor settings
I use Trisquel mini. I need this settings, because I want to change, that my monitor doesn't turn off. after a few minutes.
2:
When I start "Software Update", then I see the Updates that I should do, but when I click on "Install Now" then the window disappears with no installation.
General Question:
Should I use the normal Trisquel Version or is only the language and the desktop different?
Thanks.
- That is to be configured from "Brightness and lock" (in the "System settings");
- Could you open a terminal, type 'sudo apt-get upgrade', enter your password when it is asked, and post here the output of the command?
If you do not specifically want the LXDE desktop environment (for instance, if you do not even know what it is) and if your computer is recent enough (it has at least 2 GB of RAM), then go for the "normal" edition of Trisquel. You can install the support for whatever languages you want. You do that from "Language support" (or something like that) in the "System settings".
Thanks for your tipps.
1. I didn't find something like that ... is this also possible to change it by the terminal?
2. On Terminal I can update and upgrade.
1. That might be the menu path on Trisquel and not Trisquel mini. You can try the xset command. It can change screensaver and dpms properties. (The screensaver isn't mentioned on the man page but you can see it with xset --help)
- Don't you use the GNOME edition of Trisquel? If yes, then "Brightness and lock" should be in the "System settings"! You can launch it from a terminal with 'gnome-control-center screen';
- You can update with 'apt-get' but not with the "Update manager"? What about updating with the "Synaptic package manager" (in the "System settings")? While you are running it, see whether "gnome-control-center" is installed (if the command above is not found) and whether you have broken packages (click the "Custom filters" button in th lower-left corner of the window and then choose "Broken" in the list above).
He's using Trisquel Mini.
