Going to Control Center -> Printers -> Server -> New -> Printer -> selected my printer -> Forward will search for printer drivers and must have added a repository to my sources.list .

I guess the sources is available from http://download.ebz.epson.net/dsc/op/stable/SRPMS/

Is this a supported feature? I am wondering if these are free drivers. I tried to convert epson-inkjet-printer-nx420-1.0.0-1lsb3.2.src.rpm to deb with alien but it claims it is for architecture i386c and the package can't be built on my system.

Are you sure? I always assumed that system-config-printer was searching the Trisquel repo for drivers. Open System->Administration->"Software & Updates", and go to the "Other Software" tab. Do you see any sources other than the Trisquel repo or sources you added yourself?

I uploaded my sources.list, windows of the install process for the printer driver in the file printer_epson.tar.gz.

I did "apt source printer-driver-escpr" it downloaded the source but I believe it might proprietary after looking at the copyright license headers. The source includes a COPYING file with the GPL v2 text.

Oh the files with questionable copyright notices are in the epson-inkjet-printer-escpr-1.6.3/lib directory and epson-inkjet-printer-escpr-1.6.3/src/linux_cmn.* files

I don't see anything wrong with the copyright notice. Copyright is what gives the GPL legal weight. However, it's concerning to me that your sources.list has been modified. Even if this particular driver is GPLv2, what guarantee is there that other drivers in their repository, now or in the future, will be free?
