Hello,
Is there an easy way to blacklist certain websites from using gnash?
Your help is highly appreciated. :)

Maybe by using some Abrowser add-on, but I doesn't know, since I am not using Gnash at all.

NoScript can block Flash for "untrusted" websites.

Pretty much what has been said already. Install noscript and block flash player (gnash in your case) for the websites you want. A better option: uninstall gnash and try to run html5 (you might want to try this: install a user agent that makes you look like Ipad, usually it will bring up the html5 by default.)

That user agent thingy interests me too; how can I do that in conjunction with Tor?

Uninstalling Gnash is not advised, because some trisquel metapackages depends on it, and this can break the update process. You can disable it from the Abrowser's Addons window, or if you're dual-booting, and sharing the profile with the other operating system installed, you can also permanently disable Gnash by using this command:

sudo mv /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libgnashplugin.so /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libgnashplugin.s_

Hum, I have to be honest with you, I have not updated Trisquel after removing Gnash from my system, so I can't speka for that, but as far as browsing and usual computing goes, not having gnash installed has been a sweet. The web actually goes a little bit faster, and all, no errors whatsoever.... I like it =P

well, you can install user agent in Tor Browser too, it's easy, however, I have to say that it's not a smart move. How many people run tor on an ipad?? No one, and so you will draw all attention to yourself.
Also, keep this in mind: If you use Tor Browser, you can only stream webm/ogg, basically free/open formats. most websites have html5 players that load MP4 files. Tor Browser won't load them, will just tell you to download it (with the warning that opening the file while connected will put you in danger of revealing your true IP).
That is the reason why Vimeo won't work with Tor Browser, even when you bring up the html5 player, they only have mp4 files, so, it won't load.

As of now, you can use Tor Browser in its defaults (which is recommended!) and stream videos from Youtube, Internet Archive, mediagobblin. Also, Techive has some videos available in ogg. If you know any others, please let us know! =D

Anyone who uses Tor will draw attention to themselves, though no one will know who they are.

It is true that anyone who is detected to be using Tor will be considered "suspected". HOWEVER, once they get inside the network, they are "lost in the shuffle". If they use a "strange" user agent like Ipod, they will be easy to follow on the exit relays, no matter how much "new identity" they make.
I meant that and not the other way around =)

A Firefox/Abrowser addon called Modify Headers can change the user-agent string.

Thank you. I did not expect that the solution is so simple. With a bit of searching, I also found UAControl, User Agent Switcher, and User-Agent JS Fixer (and there are certainly more, not listed within Abrowser Add-ons). I will try them once I have some time, and the right mood to do it.

The reason why I want to try changing the user-agent string of the browser, is because some web-pages do work without Flash when accessing through my mobile phone's built-in browser, but not on a PC. I am curious about the video quality, since it can be optimized for small screens, but this may not always be the case (e.g. tablets, and ARM-based PCs).

Thanks for your comments so far. Unfortunately I didn't express myself very well. What I want to do is the following: I would like to use gnash for every website except for youtube, on which I would like to see html5 embedded videos only.

@trinux: How can I do that?

Oh, well, on YouTube, you just need to go to youtube.com/html5 and opt-in to the "HTML5 trial". It doesn't work on videos with ads, though.

What do you want to use Flash for on other websites, though? YouTube is the only website I'm aware of where Gnash actually works, excluding some really old Flash games, and many video streaming sites don't load HTML5 players if you have Flash enabled.

It's 2013, HTML5 is here now, Why in the hell are websites still using flash?

Hello.
Don't pay attention to that "html5 youtube trial" crap some people insist that we should use. There is no reason for us to report to Youtube if we want to use html5 or not. You can do so, maybe to keep them motivated about it, but you can use it just fine without it. Just change the "watch?v=" to "embed/"
Automatically You will have the html5 player with webm playing ;) I do this without loging in or anything like that.

Skilo, many websites have html5 but they hide it and only allow it for people on mobile devices =S It's stupid, why force us to use flash when we have such a great player available? But then again, why use mp4 instead of ogg? =S

Right click on any flash animation and click Edit >> Preferences -

Click "Player" tab and select "Start Gnash in Pause Mode".

There's also a blacklist but I've not tested it -

Edit: Someone beat me to posting it. :)

That blacklist option was what I'm looking for as ABrowser keeps forgetting that I entered the HTML5 trial. Unfortunately the blacklist option doesn't seem to work directly and changing the url every time seems to be a bit complicated.

Are you deleting your cookies for youtube?

This extension might come handy https://trisquel.info/en/browser/addons/redirector

I will also let everyone know you can do the same in Vimeo.

replace "www.vimeo.com/1234" with "http://player.vimeo.com/video/1234" where 1234 is the number of the video you are watching. It will give you html5 player, with mp4 format (can't be used in Tor).
