About software update, I always get this message from the software update application recently.

> Failed in download of information of repository.
> Please check the internet connection.

The internet connection is active. I got the VPN router from Thinkpenguin recently. After the setting of the router, I supppose that this update error started to happen. When the network connection was cut, I tried software update/upgrade from a terminal. Despite it was cut, it seemed that update/upgrade was done. I have just tried it and it still seems to be done.
I mean, I see these kind of texts:

> Reading package list... done
> Making a tree of relation of dependency, Reading the state information... done
> Detecting upgrade packages... done
> Upgrade : 0, New install : 0 Delete : 0 Pending : 0

I think that these 5 or 6 days, updated/upgraded packages are zero. I don't know the actual situations, though.

About backup, I always get this message from the backup application since quite early on after installing Trisquel 8.

> Failed backup.
> Could not boot duplicity as "child process" (direct translation). There are not such a directory or a file.

About software update/upgrade, I also always get the message that software is latest from the application, finally.

BTW, despite the system monitor shows all of processes are sleeping except fcitx (zonbie(?)) and the monitor itself, cpu activity ratio shows quite high ratios, and now, after typing a letter, it takes about 1 sec until it shows the letter. The machine does not seem to get too hot after installing libreboot.

Would you tell me how to backup and about update/upgrade? Thank you.

What is the output of the following command (to be executed in a terminal)?
$ sudo apt update

And this one?
$ cat /etc/apt/sources.list

Note: you can select the text in the terminal and then middle-click in the text field of this forum (or click at the same time the left and right buttons if your mouse does not have a middle button).

About "Backup", where do you backup to? A removable drive? If so, does the error window pops up when you plug it? Try closing that window and opening the "Backup" utility.

Finally, your system monitor may show, by default, only the user processes. Either find out how to show all processes or use 'top', in a terminal.
