Default ogg plugin didn't work (or so it seemed...)

The FSF recently put videos on their site ( for example, http://www.fsf.org/video/?u=what_like_sm ), but it didn't work the first time I tried to play it (only the sound). The Mozilla browser that came with Trisquel uses the VLC ogg plugin by default in my case, I don't know if that's true for everyone. I changed it to use Movie Player ( Preferences>Applications>search for "ogg") and then it worked. Then when I changed it back to VLC, it also worked. That was confusing and I don't know why it worked after all, but maybe the default plugin should be the one from Movie Player. This way, people who start using Trisquel for its commitment to free software aren't surprised by the Free Software Foundation's video player not working.

Bye!

Which Trisquel version are you using?

I've just tested it in my home computer, and at first it didn't work
(just the sound), but it worked when I tried again, and ever time since.
It worked ok in my office using Trisquel 2.2.

It seems to be a bug in the applet or in the java VM , I'll report it.

The FSF page uses a Java applet to serve videos, so the video player
plugin in the browser (totem) has nothing to do with this problem.

On Trisquel 3.0, the video seems to work when you click on "Download video" (it does not download it, instead a new tab opens and the video is reproduced using the Totem plugin, not the initial Cortado applet). The image occupies the whole of the window, however, so you can not use the control buttons nor the bar.

I've been discussing this with the FSF sysadmins today, they are
working on it. (It seems to be caused by the webserver config)
