Democracy - The Myth

tg3 posted in http://trisquel.info/en/forum/ubuntu-now-official-os-china that the UK is a democracy, in My opinion this is a myth for the following reasons.
1)No goverment has been elected with more than 50% of the vote in the last 60 years, in other words 50% or more don't want the goverment they get.
2)The candidates are selected by the political parties not the voters (I believe this is different in the US) so we can only vote for a party not a person.

Will it change ? I doubt it.
