Hi,

A couple of weeks ago (after a Trisquel update I thought, although I cannot be sure), my computer stopped booting into Trisquel.

I have a dual boot with osx which is very rarely used.

I use refind & grub.

Now I get the refind menu and when I click on Trisquel it hangs and all I can see is a black screen w/ a white blinking underscore and it's just stuck there.

osx boots normally. I went into osx and reinstalled refind. This didn't fix the problem. I then ran "boot-repair" and that didn't solve it either.

I have another dual boot computer w/ the same setup. After a Trisquel update yesterday (that computer had not been updated for a while, the same thing happened.

Somehow the update must have messed up grub. I just don't know what to do to fix it.

I can still boot into Trisquel w/ a Super Grub 2 CD. I just don't know enough about boot loaders to figure out how to fix it so I don't need to stick the CD in everytime I reset the computer.

Has anyone encountered a similar problem or does anyone have an idea for how to fix this?

Thank you!

andrew

If you use a Live CD you should be able to repair grub, using
grub-install and update-grub. You will need to chroot into your Trisquel
partition first.

Sometimes the blinking underscore problem can be solved by pressing F7
(or another F- key), that was a bug I noticed in Linux 3.2 but appears
to be fixed in later versions. Could be a completely different problem
though.

Andrew.

Thank you :) I'll try both of your suggestions in the morning and report back!
