Firefox integration of "Pocket"

Starting with Firefox 39, they integrated a thirdparty service called "Pocket" that saves reading lists, and removed the same functionality from Firefox sync. Pocket is disabled in Abrowser because of a merge request I made a few days ago, but this is getting ridiculous. With every other release of Firefox, they add a new "feature": OpenH264, EME, Hello, Pocket. (I think Hello is a good idea, but it shouldn't be integrated in the browser) I'm sure there's more to come.

That's right Legimet, With every other release of Firefox, they add a new *bloatware* "feature".
I'm happy with Iceweasel and Iceat!

Bloated is the first word to describe Firefox, the complete sentence is "bloated web browser". What they want is near to build a high level operating system. Just try to compile that monster. It took me 7 hours to compile IceCat! That was like 3 weeks ago, I wonder how many time will require IceCat 38.

wow 7 hours...

but still although it might be getting bloated i don’t think there’s too many computers that cant cope with firefox/icecat

its not like the html is lagging..

Well, on Launchpad it takes about an hour: https://launchpad.net/~legimet/+archive/ubuntu/abrowser-kde
And it hasn't changed much between versions.

What I'm more concerned about than the compile time is the addition of unnecessary "features" that should really be extensions.

Agree, It would be perfect if they were extensions, this way users can easily wipe out of their system any unnecessary or out of place feature, right now you have to patch and recompile.

The only one of those "features" that can really be disabled when building Firefox is EME. It might be possible to patch Firefox to get rid of Pocket, but what Trisquel and Parabola are doing is setting the preference for enabling Pocket to false by default. Pocket is there in Abrowser, but disabled by default.

Sadly, I can't really find a good browser that can stand up to Firefox/Icecat/Iceweasel/Icecactus/Abrowser...
Midori is fairly feature-lacking...
Palemoon looks like shit...
GNOME Web isn't really even competition...

I'm sure the page I linked doesn't use https. otherwise I would have linked the https page..

And no. there is no problem as long as you don't have to login and use personal info or such..

cheers

And now, multiple vulnerabilities have been found in Pocket: https://www.gnu.gl/blog/Posts/multiple-vulnerabilities-in-pocket/
