I have changed my sources.list to nabia

and

apt-get update
apt-get upgrade
apt-get dist-upgrade
reboot

It works.

Do that on a test machine :-)

That's pretty cool! Trying it right now.

Yup, it works.

That is one seriously long upgrade. So far everything is working and looking good.

I understand that this is a beta. There are some problems when installing third-party packages. I got the message "## Your distribution, identified as "nabia", is not currently supported" when I tried to install nodejs from nodesource, or wine. This never happened in Trisquel 9.

This is a beta, they don't accept betas to be listed as distributions.

I've already tried :P

I discovered I had unwillingly double posted.
The first post with typos, in the second I had corrected them.
I tried to delete this first one.
But is seems I have failed.

I became addicted to liveCDs and liveDVDs and lately to liveUSBs.
Is it currently possible to download a Triskel 10.0 (beta) to test its flavour?
If so, where and how shoud I request it?

I wonder where this background image is located. It shows briefly at boot/shutdown. Splash screen.

Looks like somewhere in the Swiss Alps to me. The American Rockies and the Peruvian Andes have a different style to them. Bavarian Alps are really big. Swiss Alps have a lot of scenes like that, where the trees and then the grassy fields end right at the base of the flat(ish) granite top.

How dare you call a Cantabrian a Galician!

I love a good Northern Spanish turf war.

Why does Spain have all these cool autonomous regions? I wish I lived in an autonomous region.

I installed it on certain UEFI systems. To my surprises, it offers far far better UEFI support than Ubuntu and spins (except Lubuntu, which uses Calamares) as well as Mint (either Ubuntu or Debian edition). I could never successfully install Ubuntu/Mint on certain UEFI systems for many years.

As of now, the cdbuilds Trisquel 10 directory (linked above and below) works again. However, it's somewhat slow.

http://cdbuilds.trisquel.org/

I installed Trisquel 10 on my MBAIR 2015. Works like charm. I didn't see any way to bypass the disk encryption. Looks like it's enforced.

I ran into an issue: Caja wouldn't show previews for image files.

sudo apt-get install libgdk-pixbuf2.0-bin

This package was missing, resulting in Caja not creating thumbnails for jpg and png image files.

##EDIT##

Without this thumbnailer helper package previews would only show up if the image was first opened and edited in Gimp. I tried deleting thumbnail folder under ~/.cache and suspected permissions had something to do with it. These efforts were futile.

The solution was here.

The recommended minimum for graphical is 1 gigabytes of ram

" The actual minimum memory requirements are a lot less than the numbers listed in this table. With swap enabled, it is possible to install Debian with as little as 350MB. The same goes for the disk space requirements, especially if you pick and choose which applications to install; see Section D.2, “Disk Space Needed for Tasks” for additional information on disk space requirements.

It is possible to run a graphical desktop environment on older or low-end systems, but in that case it is recommended to install a window manager that is less resource-hungry than those of the GNOME or KDE Plasma desktop environments; alternatives include xfce4, icewm and wmaker, but there are others to choose from. "
https://www.debian.org/releases/bullseye/amd64/ch03s04.en.html

"Have you tried Hardinfo (see pic) where you get most of what you need then do some serious benchmark testing "

Not yet.

Yes, Triskel is an official spin of Trisquel and is therefore approved by the FSF. The FSF is fine with any free software desktop environment.

I am playing with Nabia now, using live with usb key
on a laptop dell latitude d630.
The wireless card is recognized in Trisquel 10, is possible
to keep this "magick"?
The wireless card use Broadcom Bcm4311 802/11b/g (Wireless 1390 Wlan mini card), I think Nabia use
a free driver (I hope)

From a related thread.

"You Say > The recommended minimum for graphical is 1 gigabytes of ram"

"I say 2GiB - see pic - Recommended Minimum System Requirements
Could you show us where it says "Reommended 1GiB RAM"" "Anyhow if this Triskel is anything like Debian-11 it is recommended 2GiB as an absolute minimum""

1 Gig is under the minimum column, 2 is under recommended, for "Recommended Minimum System Requirements". Neither are absolute, or the most minimum one could get away with. It's confusing, and the graphic was a text table, so copy and paste may have not worked out so well, but at least obvious for anyone who'd visit the link. Trisquel's or the one I found is from over ten years ago, but weird that for 64 bit, twice as much ram would be used (maybe slowdows or ubuntu would hog more)? https://trisquel.info/en/wiki/system-requirements

"Ps: Why are you not listed as a user here on this forum...?"

I don't know what you mean.

">Yes, Triskel is an official spin of Trisquel and is therefore approved by the FSF.

No way; it would say so if it was specifically approved."

Triskel is listed regularly as a download on trisquel's main download page.

"Why have you not responded on misleading Debian RAM statement of yours..?
Please deal with that before smothering?"

Was responding to "Anyhow if this Triskel is anything like Debian-11 it is recommended 2GiB as an absolute minimum". 1 Gib fit both "recommended" and "minimum", for the table. Also, appears there's not a "absolute" value? Anyways, I wasn't misleading. https://trisquel.info/en/forum/forward-triskel-100-beta-capable-install-and-boot#comment-161190

Bubo won't install anything. A purpose-made live ISO is needed to fulfill Bubo's needs.

Looks like you can by-pass the disc encryption and the lvm with the "advanced optione" panel on the installer. The default is to have the encryption and lvm. I went and turned this off at install time, and got my simple partition scheme (one esp and one ext4).

"Please mark up the graphic"

What you originally said is "Anyhow if this Triskel is anything like Debian-11 it is recommended 2GiB as an absolute minimum".

From the graphic, and your orignal wording, the sites contents, looks like 1 gig could have been by what you meant by "recommended" *Some number* "GiB as an absolute minimum" so if we are biased to "minimum" that's what category it is for the table, although it doesn't appear the table is for KDE, but bullseye is Debian 11. I don't see why one would try and be misleading about this, can you list the motive?

Legimet

1 GB is definitely not the minimum for Debian. Try installing Debian with a window manager instead of a full-fledged desktop environment. Also Trisquel, Ubuntu, and Debian have the same desktop environments in their repos, including LXDE and MATE.

I have a curiosity please: in the sources list I have see the trisquel backports is not flagged, why? the backports are safe to use with Nabia or is better to enable?

lanun

It should be safe to use backports on Trisquel.

See for instance: https://trisquel.info/en/forum/libreoffice-update-v6-v7#comment-160044

I cannot use them on Nabia yet, because I am still using Etiona, which will be supported with security updates until April 2023 and is the recommended version.

True, just for the table of recommendations.
