I'm honestly surprised by your reactions.
These are ebooks, what more do you need besides downloading them, sharing (linking is fine as far as I know) and this without data mining as a payment (no browser-side js needed)?

I already know and enjoy Gutenberg's project and others, and I know it's not the same type of service.
Plus it's data that you won't find on the gutemberg webside for instance.

Now maybe this is all semantics.
I just don't care if I'm not allowed to modify or resell one of their books, or share it in any other way than linking to their website, or to not overload their server(s) with automation.
Translation is possibly an issue but hey, sue me.
So the freedom that is lacking is either freedom most people won't ever need, or it's freedom I'd take anyway with virtually zero risks.

I'll agree to disagree because I personally won't throw the baby with the bathwater in that specific case.

Thanks for your links though.

These books are not free when it comes to freedom. For truly free books I recommend https://www.gutenberg.org/
