GNU won't let Libreboot leave. Ruben mentioned again in statement for his involvement.

Things have really started to heat up since GNU won't give Libreboot to Leah. Ruben is still being mentioned in the discrimination claims.
There's a lot of stuff going around. Not all of it is factually correct.
It claims Richard Stallman refused to let libreboot go, but I have been reading the archives of the gnu-prog-discuss mailing list. Stallman has not said anything at all.
A few GNU contributors said things. They don't speak for the GNU Project itself.
Claiming that the GNU Project refused to let libreboot go based on their responses seems to be mischaracterizing what happened in the mailing list thread. Individual GNU contributors do not speak for the GNU Project. That is up to Stallman.
And so: "The GNU Project" did not tell Leah anything about this yet... a few GNU contributors expressed personal opinions on a mailing list. That is all.
I don't have much of an opinion on Leah's original statements (because we outsiders don't know exactly what happened) but seeing this, it does make me wonder: If Leah can mischaracterize the conversation on gnu-prog-discuss, (since I have first hand knowledge of what's going on there, since I am on the list in question) I wonder how much of the other things have been too. We'll probably never really know.
After read this I just can not believe it. For me, if I understood this, they are just trolling her. Which is not acceptable for me (or for any other human being).
(this is my words, and just my personal opinion)
The fork is a practical freedom the free software movement rightfully considers essential: it is a mechanism that allows the software to evolve in the way its community (who usually either chooses the original or the fork) wants it to. Anyway, having the project you administrate being forked may be insulting. However, in this case, Leah Rowe is the one who decided to leave the GNU umbrella! And she should not be worried of losing libreboot's control if she would have the support of the libreboot community (in particular, of her fellow developers). However, it is hard to support somebody who repetitively demands people at the FSF being firing even if she apparently has no evidence supporting the severe claim she makes ("an employee fired because she is trans")...
FSF did not share clear answer about fired trans person. They just trolling. I am not trans or gay, but I am a human being as they are, and all we are the same. And this is unethical, and unnacepatble firing or bulling a human being. And I will defend humand being.
The answers of the FSF ( https://www.fsf.org/news/free-software-foundation-statement ) and of its president ( https://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/libreboot/2016-09/msg00052.html ) are pretty clear:
Although it is our usual policy not to comment publicly on internal personnel matters for privacy reasons, we felt it necessary to state unequivocally that the allegations made in that email are untrue. (...) While we understand that it is difficult whenever an employment relationship ends, the suggestion that the separation was a result of discriminatory animus is unfounded.
The dismissal of the staff person was not because of her gender.
Her gender now is the same as it was when we hired her.
It was not an issue then, and it is not an issue now.
What is unclear is the accusation: Leah claims that the FSF fired somebody because she was trans but does not give any *single* evidence. And she asks for people being fired. And she leaves the GNU project. And she asks for the refunding of her donations. Leah is trolling!
> FSF did not share clear answer about fired trans person.
RMS was very very very clear and quick in his answer, so, no, what you say just isn't.
Jxself is right as usual.
What saddens me the most is how Leah simply ignored all other contributors and the community around Libreboot and chose the project as its own mouthpiece. This just shows how she perceives Libreboot as its own plaything, instead of a project with a life of its own. Damien was spot-on in his criticism https://web.archive.org/web/20160919131051/http://zammit.org/libreboot-screwup.html
Another sad consequence is that she ended up publicly outing her transgender colleague in the process.
What a trainwreck.
I don't expect GNU Project act like other big corporations. Those gnu maintainers seem to be just a bunch of suckers who are totally ignoring Leah Rowe. They are just telling her: "You didn't found the project so fuck off and leave."
GNU maintainers seem to be totally OK with hijacking her project by saying Libreboot is not 'trademarked'.
This is what happened, and this is what I trying to say.
Leah Rowe did much for Libreboot and GNU project. And now, they attacking her.
Anyone taking this seriously at this point is naïve.
Other than not being a statement from RMS, what Leah is complaining about, were it from RMS, would not be without precedent at all. A few years ago, the maintainer of GnuTLS announced an intention to disassociate it from GNU, not for some stupid reason like "f*** you, FSF!", but because of legitimate grievances regarding how GNU development works (which I don't know anything about, not being a GNU maintainer myself). RMS rejected this with the exact reasoning being used by people on the mailing list mentioned. Personally, I find this reasoning to be perfectly sound: you can stop contributing to a component of the GNU Project, but there are two things you cannot do:
1. You cannot continue using "GNU" as a part of its name.
2. You cannot order the FSF to stop developing the component as a part of the GNU Project.
So I agree; Libreboot can become a fork of GNU Libreboot not associated with GNU, but Leah doesn't have the right to stop the FSF from continuing GNU Libreboot's development with someone else. The fact that Leah started Libreboot and later made it a GNU component is irrelevant.
But really, this is an entirely semantic argument. Who forked who doesn't matter. I think Leah is just trying to keep stirring the pot because she gets an endorphin rush feeling like she's bringing about social justice by punishing people she perceives to be evil. So please, everyone, join me in sitting back and laughing at the joke that this really is. (You especially, t3g.)
Libreboot isn't trademarked. The GNU project can keep it's version of Libreboot with the actual community-- while Leahroweboot keeps chugging on life-support.
Also, anyone else notice that Leah is speaking in third person on the site? It's really weird.
She's the only one that can make commits to the site... and I can doubt that anyone else in the Libreboot community is insane enough to really be passionate about this... so she /has/ to be the one writing these pages, you know?
EDIT: Actually, it's not "weird." It's just terrible and dishonest. She acts and writes like she's the embodiement of the Libreboot community-- *that's* why she writes in third person, to glorify herself as such.
Now she's publicized a personal email sent to her so she can humiliate its author. Further evidence that she's attention-whoring.
Anybody saying "GNU won't let Libreboot leave" just doesn't
understand what Free Software is.
