I discovered that Trisquel 6.0 has gnugpg version 1.4.11 installed, but the latest version of gnupg is 2.0.22. How can I upgrade gnupg to the latest version?
Install gnupg2, it is 2.0.17 with patches that fix e.g. a security issue
that versions upto 2.0.19 had. The program is named gpg2.
Both 1.4 and 2.0 are included since 2.0 has extra features and maybe
some systems need the size of 1.4. (Parabola has only 2.0.)
I have gnupg2 (2.0.17) and gnupg (1.4.11) installed. Should I remove gnupg 1.4.11?
No need to remove, use the gpg2 program to use gnupg2.
spyfall, I encrypt files by selecting them in Nautilus (the file browsing application), then right-click on the selected files and from the pop-up menu chose "Encrypt...". After that it is straight forward - chose who you encrypt the file for (e.g., yourself), chose location and name for the encrypted file, and type your password.
But I can't tell you if this method uses gnupg2 or 1.4, I'm kind of new to all this.
I'm pretty sure that GPG gets updated with Trisquel's update manager.

GPG and GPG2 are treated as separate packages and maintained separately,
so updating GPG wouldn't give you GPG2.
