More information (specific) please:
- What have you tried
- What errors are displayed
- What have you researched
Always do this when you ask for help. The amount of information you
provide is directly proportional to the amount of help you get and
inversely proportional to the expertize of the group you ask to.

Are you referring to the HP LaserJet 1020 Printer?
This printer will not work with Trisquel. It requires a driver plug-in and non-free firmware which has to be downloaded separately. Nobody here would recommend and it isn't ideal for GNU/Linux use in general because of these problems.
ThinkPenguin (I'm CEO) doesn't sell laser printers at the moment although we do have three inkjet models if that would work.
You can actually figure out which laser printers work pretty easily if you know what your doing. HP documents it pretty well on there web site. It isn't perfect though so you do have to be careful still (ie you might run into issues still).

Perhaps we can give lfgtech an alternative without recommending non-free
software or firmware.
- What is needed to develop the necessary elements to reverse engineer
the needed parts?
- What resources (money or time) do the people that need this hardware
to work have available to provide?
- Who can make the work necessary for that to be possible?
- What would be the price of a working printer that replaces that one?

It's harder to recommend stuff than you think. Model numbers don't equal chipsets/specifications/etc.
The site you want to look at which documents free software info is here:
http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/index.html
Start with the recommended printer list. But you have to realize there are a number of sections you need to look at because HP does include non-free software dependent printers in its recommended list. The plug-ins section and some others. You also have to pay attention to the min hplip version info or it'll be a pain to install. You might not be able to get a printer for Trisquel that works though because HP discontinued its old lineup so stocks are limited and probably non-existent by now.
We have stock though of the older models which will work with Trisquel (but not laser, and we can't ship to Brazil anyway, at least not printers). There not really 'old' but the driver versions differ enough for it to matter. We are more concerned about ease of use then the latest and "greatest".
You can find compatible printers in www.h-node.org. H-node is a hardware database which aim is to provide information to its users about how well various devices work with free software only.
It seems that h-node does not have your printer yet. Could you please report it? It's easy and it would benefit our community.
It won't work. I already checked. There is another database that HP maintains at:
http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/index.html
You could probably scrape the recommended printers list and automate the process. But in any case. It leaves too much room and not enough resources end up going to support free software via that method.
Thanks for all answers!
I tried the steps:
1 - automatic installation: install, but not working.
2 - sudo hp-plugin: it's ok and after install printer, but still not working.
3 - sudo hp-setup: error msg; don't find printer usb.
4 - download plugin on the hplipopensource: without option for theTrisquel.
The printer HP1020 it's very fast and working on the debian squeeze. I will like install on the Trisquel!
