Hi friends. I was just wondering if I could use my mobile to surf he net using tethering. I did a quick search, and I didn't find anything related to tethering in Trisquel repositories. However there seems to be several apps available in F-Droid. So my question is... Is it possible?

It's available in Setting>more settings>tethering (or something like that) on my phone.

As far asI know you don't need a seperate app for that, I certainly don't.

As far as I understand (I do not have a cell phone), the GNU/Linux system should see the phone as a Wifi access point, i.e., nothing needs to be installed on that GNU/Linux system.

Isn't tethering done with Bluetooth?

I've seen a video telling how to tether with another (Xfce-based) GNU/Linux system before; on there, you enable bluetooth, pair with the phone that has tethering enabled, and then choose the bluetooth thing from the wireless connections list. I don't know if GNOME is different.

I think you can do it with USB too.

I lol'd at that.
You can tether via Bluetooth, Wifi and USB, however I'm not sure how easy USB tethering would be with most devices as I'm not sure if the drivers are available. Wifi should work though if the device supports it.

Sure you can use it. Even some Nokias (those older ones without Windows or Android).

It's pointless to look whether Trisquel has it or not. It's up to the Android system. Before 2.2 (I think) you had to install another app or something.

You hook up the USB cable provided, and in the phone configuration -> wireless -> tethering. If the phone is connected it would magically work after a short handshake with Trisquel.

Maybe F Droid has some tweaks for the menus, I never used it. But with regular Android there should be no need for another app for the devices made in the last few years.

You can do it through Bluetooth as well, but it's more complicated as you need a receiver with a free driver - kernel module - and myself I have never done it.

Somebody above points out you can make the phone a Wifi hotspot. That has a lot of drawbacks the main advantage being portability. The battery will drain under your eyes. Also you can't connect at the same time the phone to one of the free Wifi hotspots offered by your phone company.

Yeah! Thank you guys! It was more simple than I thought. Yes, almost automatically. Thanks again!
