Lennart Poettering Leaves Redhat for Microsoft

With Lennart Poettering now employed at Microsoft does anybody feel that it gives more reason to not trust SystemD seeing as a company such as Microsoft signs his cheques now and therefore may have a lot of influence on the project ? I have always been on the fence with SystemD. I agree that it does many things I disagree with on a philosophical level but on the practical level I have never had any major issues with it as a user while I have had tons of issues with non SystemD distros.

Not really. It is free software, so any malicious changes would be easily detected. Besides, Pottering is not the only systemd maintainer.
Also, Microsoft does not care about GNU/Linux on the desktop. They are not going to try to «destroy» something with a 3% market share.
"There is a menace which is spreading like a disease throughout the Linux world" (https://suckless.org/sucks/systemd).
I believe this sentence sums up the problem with many noisy systemd critics. Opening a critique of an init system with a horror movie introduction does not confer credibilitity to any of the - sometimes justified - arguments that may follow. It is completely counterproductive because nobody is going to want to lose time to read whatever follows such a statement, except maybe bloodthirsty Chthulu cultists.
The best way to tackle the limitations of systemd is to propose alternative init systems and, even better, make them available in existing popular distros. This is precisely what devuan does, and I predict a shining future (no reference to horror stories this time) to gnuinos.
Cthulhu and The Shining? So what you're really saying is suckless does not paint enough of a horror movie picture.
Exactly. They put the punchline first, which is a well-known stylistic mistake, possibly the ultimate one. They ought to begin with Shire lore instead, and the happy lands of Systemdia - in which we Trisquel users have been dwelling for generations, running in the fresh grass and enjoying the morning dew, etc.
The Alien vs. Pazuzu part should come last, when readers have already made up their mind and start relaxing their attention, so it can infiltrate their dreams, turn them into nightmares and in turn change the readers into zombies.
You seem to have put a lot of thought into this, Mister person-who-suddenly-showed-up-after-Cthulhu-ate-lanun
> Cthulhu-ate-lanun
Codswallop. I ate lanun. Good food. Escalope.
I also eat small bits of systemd, from time to time. It is so big it does not make much difference. I am under the impression that it regrows larger each time.
EDIT: I swear I did not participate in the kidnapping of Lennart nor anyone else by any company.

Yeah, we'll see if you are still singing the same tune after spending the next five years in a small jail cell with Julian Assange and his cat.
Please stop derailing threads about systemd, or some are going to believe that you are trying to spy on us on their behalf.
I don't know enough to have an informed opinion either way on systemd, but this is precisely what makes me skeptical of the systemd critics. I will say that I've never had any issues with systemd or any other init system. It's not something that I really notice much.
The problem is that SystemD requires software which it does not need. That makes it impossible to avoid if you need some package. So, if you remove SystemD, you will not be able to use some programs which should not require it!
