Is there a libre Ethereum wallet?
I learned MetaMask is a wallet and can install the addon on Torbrowser.

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ether-metamask/?utm_source=addons.mozilla.org&utm_medium=referral&utm_content=search

But on Abrowser, addon search suspensefully does not find MetaMask.

But it seems that MetaMask is licensed under MIT/X11 license.
Does that mean MetaMask libre software? i.e. does not that mean MetaMask libre software?

....................................

And how about eth-wallet?

https://pypi.org/project/eth-wallet/

The wallet is licensed under GPL but Trisquel repository does not have the package.
And about pip, I found some posts in Trisquel forum that mention pip-python is proprietary software. But if I try to install pip-python from the terminal, it does not seem to discourage from installing it.
Though Trisquel repository does not have the package either.

sudo apt install pip-python
>Package python-pip is not available, but is referenced by another package.
This means that the package is missing, obsolete, or only available from another source.

Are there any problems with these wallets? Are there any other good and reliable wallets in the Trisquel repositories?

sudo python3 setup.py install

This seems to be the entrance to a vast labyrinth. I opened the door casually, but I already feel like closing it.

Why was your post downvoted? I see nothing wrong in it. I gave a "+" to counter the "-".

Also, isn't setup.py trying to use pip under the hood?

As to pip - you earlier mentioned it is considered nonfree. Could you tell us why? I thought it is free by itself and that the problem with it is that it uses a repository which serves some nonfree bits. It would then fall into the "recommends nonfree" category instead...

> Why was your post downvoted?

This seems to be an eternally recurring question here. Sometimes a given user takes a dislike to another user for undetermined reasons and start down voting their posts systematically, which in itself goes against the voting system, which is not supposed to be used for personal grudge, gripe or grievance whatsoever.

However, maybe this post was down voted because cryptocurrencies are only remotely related to Trisquel. Maybe this thread would fit better in the General Free Software Talk, or arguably in the Troll Lounge, which is supposed to provide "a cosy environment for off-topic conversations". When in doubt, I always choose to open a new thread there, because people feel freer to leave open comments there, because there is nothing shameful with it and because that way I am sure not to post in the wrong place and create a mess in the main forums.

Maybe someone thought that down voting was dirtier but faster than a detailed explanation. I personally prefer detailed explanations and rational discussion, but I can imagine that some people don't have too much time for that. I wouldn't focus too long on trying to understand the intricacies of the up and down votes, though.

About cryptocurrencies:

"Cryptocurrency is the digitally woke techbro’s ponzi scheme, and is a massive waste of electricity and developer effort. Anyone who tells you anything positive about anything which is even remotely connected to cryptocurrency almost certainly has ulterior motives and you should steer clear. So hopefully that settles that. And cryptocurrency is a P2P system, anyway, NOT a federation!"

> Cryptocurrency is the digitally woke techbro’s ponzi scheme

Some cryptocurrencies were but those more prominent ones aren't. To just call them economic bubbles would be more accurate.

> [...] is a massive waste of electricity

This happens to be true in many cases but some networks are moving from mineable proof-of-work to more eco-friendly proof-of-stake. Also, there are more ideas - for example one blockchain based its proof-of-work on computations done for BOINC.

> [..] and developer effort.

Aside from those few successful ones - maybe true. Unfortunately, programmers tend do waste their time on unneeded thing regardless of whether crypto is involved or not.

> Anyone who tells you anything positive about anything which is even remotely connected to cryptocurrency almost certainly has ulterior motives

I thought it would be closer to truth to claim that people who say exclusively bad things about crypto have ulterior motives... But after more thinking I come to conclusion most ppl just say what they believe in.

Here is one certain positive thing about crypto: it is more friendly towards Software Freedom Movement and free society than conventional currencies are. Currently, I have no convenient way to make a transfer in regular currency without running nonfree js. I have to go in person either to my bank or to post office. At the same time the vast majority of cyptocurrencies can be used through free/libre software under GNU/Linux.

> And cryptocurrency is a P2P system, anyway, NOT a federation!

I fully agree!
