Is there anywhere where I can watch the speak online? I was not able to watch it live and I can't find any recordings.

Some of the files at http://mtjm.eu/releases/lp2014/ contain it
(room141.ogv.4 to room141.ogv.6). The stream quality is very bad for
this talk and it's probably incomplete.

The FSF will release a hopefully better recording some time after the
conference.

Thanks, I'll probably wait a few days and hope for a higher quality upload. :)

I'm not happy that the stream is in Theora instead of WebM since the quality is better.

Now that Abrowser supports VP9 and Opus in in WebM, it will be interesting to see if future streams will accomodate the updated codecs.

Is the sound cutting out for everyone else? If so this is unwatchable.

Perhaps in six months when the FSF gets around to posting video from this event we can see if there is a better version.

hmm interesting. Is this the official video? I was told at the event that they had been unable to record his speech. I certainly can't hear it although the video is playing (which is more than I expected existed). I know they were having problems at Eben Moglen's keynote too so at least part of that has no sound either.

What was the issue? No one had a camera setup and pressed record on it? The video with Ruben was not only hard to listen too with the synched audio, but his English isn't the greatest either.

I just heard about it after the fact. I think Rubén's English is pretty good actually. I had more difficulty with other non-native conference attendees and certainly most of the local Spanish speaking population I encounter here in the US doesn't have nearly the grasp of English Rubén does. Comparatively though the school systems in Mexico and Spain are on completely different playing fields. If you ask me Rubén comes off as a well educated non-native speaker. Give it 6-8 months in a country that speaks English and I'd expect he'd be pretty darn fluent (ie thinking in English fluent). That is to be expected though with somebody who uses English as a 2nd language.

"If you ask me Rubén comes off as a well educated non-native speaker."

Agreed. He and I have no issues communicating. If anything I actually enjoy it because I like hearing his accent. :)

I know you are making a joke, but it is so true. Follows the whole "when its done" attitude that plagues many free software projects but this is just a video. Someone must have recorded it with a decent camera and has the ability to FTP to a server somehow?

The first video:

Jacob Appelbaum's keynote at LibrePlanet 2014. The talk was delivered remotely via Tor-encrypted, 100% free software videochat.

Using Debian and Jitsi (probably) with Tor.

Don't hold your breath. quidam made that statement before LibrePlanet and before the problems happened.
