Any recommendation for any Spotify-like service?

What about Atraci? I've been told it's "open source". Is it free software? I have not seen it in the Trisquel repo.

Atraci is licensed under the MIT license, so it's free software.
It's not in the normal ubuntu repos afaik, so that might be the reason why it's not in trisquel.
That said, it basically plays the sound of youtube videos... which is really nice, but it's not a real streaming service like spotify.
There is www.jamendo.com which offers a few really nice songs...
however, normal streaming services impose DRM and i guess that's not really compatible with free software...

The way I record my music is by using Audacity through my sound card, then I'll converted to the file of my desire and saved it to my Server or usb.

Audacity is free. Any sound, song/lyric even my own breathing I record. , I could catch it without worries of DRM. Unless you are in dire need of videos, then I'm in a different parle forum.

I use Minitube, which is simply for watching Youtube videos- pretty much any song anyone wants to listen to is on Youtube. You can also download the songs via Minitube, and convert them to ogg, if you like.

different from my usual.

i download jamendo albums in flac (yes they do provide flacs but only
via there api!)

heres a older version of my jamendo-dl scripts, need to update it with
the newer one that could do with some more work on it but if someones
keen i can upload it now -as is- so they can hack on it.

We should all place as much importance on the licenses of the music as we do for music-related programs.

Why? Art is non-functional, software is functional. It is vital for software to be free, but it isn't for music and art to be.

This is true. But there are other issues with copyright with regards to
music that are addressed by RMS in this video:

You can use youtube-dl*, viewtube** or another free program to watch
this video.

It does raise good points.

The point is not that all music should be free, but that the copyright
system as it exists today unnecessarily takes away freedom that makes
free music desirable.

That's my opinion anyway.
