Newest Desktop GPU That Works With Trisquel ?

What is the newest desktop GPU that works with Trisquel ? The best I can find sold anywhere with a desktop system from places like Vikings is a GT 710. I have even had issues with Trisquel not working right with an old HD 4350 of mine although it may have been an issue with the motherboard, i'm not sure. The issue I had with the 4350 was not being able to select a resolution above 1024*768. It also wasn't recognizing the model of monitor even though it is just an old HP monitor, nothing special. That issue aside I was hoping to sometime in the next year or so save up enough to get a D8 from Vikings or even a Talos II but my worry is that even if I do no decent GPU will work with it on a libre OS. Solutions, ideas ?
I wonder this as well, I am trying to build a PC too.
I suggest h-node.org which has libre-compatible video cards-- but I haven't begun searching for a GPU yet so please let me know if you find a nice card!
To be safe, go with Intel integrated graphics. I have an "Intel HD Graphics 630" chipset in my Kaby Lake processor released in 2017. I was having troubles (screen glitches on some applications) with Trisquel 7, based on Ubuntu 14.04. I do not with Trisquel 8, based on Ubuntu 16.04. No limitation of the resolution with Intel's drivers, which are essentially the same in Linux and Windows, as far as I understand. I remember I read years ago about Intel starting to use firmware for its graphical chipsets. However, I have never seen any limitation so far, with the kernels Trisquel ships.
All Intel integrated graphics are good. Although starting Skylake, Intel integrated graphics required non-free firmware, they could still work without non-free firmware with no observable performance penalty.
For Nvidia discrete graphics, the latest acceptable card was GM107 (GTX750Ti). Starting GM2xx, firmware signature was mandatory, so stay away from 2nd generation Maxwell or newer cards.
For ATI/AMD, stay as far away from them as possible.
I'm looking for the same solution, as I'd like to get a Talos Blackbird motherboard if Trisquel 9 is ported to the Power9 chip like has been discussed. Intel is not a solution for that, so maybe the GTX750Ti would work. All I need is basic graphics, nothing special. I've read that the Blackbird has an HDMI port with basic onboard graphics, but I've also read that the onboard graphics may not be working hardly at all.
Seeing that a GT 710 seems to work with Trisquel I would be a little surprised if a GTX 750 Ti didn't work. I just did some quick browsing on Ebay and even a GTX 780 Ti 4GB can be had for $100 CAD so I may look into that as well. At that price even if it didn't work for what I wanted I would simply use it as a spare part.
Yes, and lots of 750ti's for under $40 on ebay. Might be worth grabbing a 780 and a 750, see how they run. Re-sell the one that's not needed back on ebay.
Before purchasing any Nvidia card, be sure to go to Wikipedia to see what chipset is the card based on. For example, you can search for pages named something like "Nvidia GeForce 700 Series" (However, I can't do this for you, because Wikipedia has been completely censored in China one year ago.)
You'll see code numbers like GK104 or GM208. The second letter F, K, M, P denotes Fermi, Kepler, Maxwell, Pascal, etc., i.e. the architecture. The third digit 1 or 2 means generation under the same architecture. e.g. GM107 is the first generation of Maxwell card and GM208 is the second generation. The last digit, usually 4 to 8 denotes the performance specification. The smaller, the higher-end the card is, so GK104 is much more powerful than GK107.
For freedom's sake, don't purchase 2nd generation Maxwell cards or anything newer. They require signed firmware and therefore are extremely hostile to free software. If you want to purchase a high-end GTX780Ti, make sure that it's NOT a GM2xx. Acceptable cards include GFxxx, GKxxx and GM1xx (but not GM2xx).
You can also go to https://h-node.org to see if your specific model works with free software.
