Open source cloud storage

I'm using Spideroak sync and backup. They are often endorsed as privacy and security friendly and they might be. But they still have this little black hole of closed software. I just heard of Syncany for the first time.

Anyone who knows about it?

Do you have other suggestions?

I'd recommend ownCloud.
IMO it's the most polished and professional fully Free Software cloud storage platform.
It's supported by pretty much any device (relevant to us, GNU/Linux, BSD, and Replicant).
You can host your own server or use someone else's server (often for a small fee).
I like Openmailbox as an ownCloud host-- they have reasonable prices for storage and are dedicated to privacy.

I would really like to setup a server and run OwnCloud by my self but so far I haven't had the time to compensate for my my lack of knowledge and skills.

What can you say about Openmailbox regarding privacy and security? (though the issue is cloud storage!)

Chris (Think Penguin) posted about this a year or two ago. If I remember correctly, some people had concerns that were beyond Chris' control (I might have been one of those people). Without suggesting cause and effect, right or wrong ... I don't think anything came of it.

It would be cool if Think Penguin did this though.

Their website says:
"Our online solution offers free e-mail address hosting for a wide public in search of a high quality service inspired by a free philosophy and totally independent of all the existing large service companies on the web. The respect for our members' privacy is our priority, which is why we do everything to ensure the security of the data that is entrusted to us."

Their Terms of Service doesn't say they access/own your data, as some other services do.
Technically, you can't verify that Openmailbox doesn't snoop on your data, but you can't do that with *any* cloud service. Openmailbox, however, seems to have a commitment to privacy, so it seems more trust-worthy than other services.

At Openmailbox.org you can 1 GB for free (including your email and cloud)
